The clavichord is an old instrument, dating back to perhaps the early fifteenth century, possibly even the fourteenth century. It was common through the eighteenth century, beloved by the entire Bach family, Mozart and even Beethoven. It was briefly dormant during the nineteenth century, then "rediscovered" and promoted by the early music revivalists, such as Arnold Dolmetch, around the turn of the twentieth century. clavichord hubert schmahl silbermann
