You might think that understanding your studio- acoustics is a complicated subject, but it boils down to grasping a few essential principles. Acoustic designer Ethan Winer explains nodes, modes, nulls, and standing waves to help you understand how small room acoustics affect the music you record and mix.
More recording and mixing is being done in very small rooms than ever before. Small-room recordists include not only amateurs and weekend engineers in their home studios but also serious professionals doing critical music projects for major labels ...

Architectural and Acoustical Design and Consulting: FM Design Ltd.
Francis Manzella Design Ltd is a full service Architectural Acoustics, and Media Facility design firm based in Yorktown Heights, NY. We specialize in Architectural Acoustic Design and modeling of critical listening environments and performance spaces for the audio Recording, Post-Production, Broadcast and Entertainment industries.
We are immersed in the process and are always investigating new techniques and solutions for the acoustic design challenges we face on each project. Incorporating the best from previous successes and stretching the envelope in aesthetic and acoustic conceptualization keeps the process stimulating and fresh. Personal service and a resolute desire to see projects through to completion are the principals upon which our service is based.
We are not into providing "cookie cutter" solutions and will not sell pre-existing designs to new customers. I have yet to walk into a new project that had the exact same requirements or design challenges as a previous one. The individual attention given to each client and their needs, is what we pride ourselves on, and I believe this is what gives us an edge states principal designer, Francis Manzella. This, along with over 20 years of actual in studio experience as engineers and technicians and musicians, is what separates Francis Manzella Design from many other acoustics and design firms.
Our Client List reflects the many aspects of acoustic design and consulting that we have been involved in. From large scale Multi-room Commercial Studio and Systems designs, to small private-use Production Studio consultations, FM Design strives to give each of it's customers the individual solutions that fit the budget, timeframe and design goals of the project ...

MLSSA by DRA Laboratories is the loudspeaker industry's standard measurement system. MLSSA is also used by automakers, recording studios, acousticians and government agencies to measure sound systems, room acoustics and speech intelligibility.
The MLSSA Remote Controlled Analog Interface (RCAI) is now available. The RCAI allows you to perform both frequency response and impedance measurements of loudspeakers without pausing to switch cables or change the MLSSA setup. Impedance and frequency response curves can be displayed and printed together on the same graph. Reference loopback measurements of even the highest powered amplifiers are performed automatically and safely. The RCAI also includes a four-input microphone multiplexer for automated spatially averaged room measurements. Up to four units can be daisy chained to expand the number of inputs and/or power amplifiers supported by a single MLSSA 2000 card.
