Né en Allemagne en 1957, Hans Zimmer se consacre très tôt à la musique. Malgré sa volonté de persévérer dans ses études musicales, il ne fait pas le bonheur de son professeur de piano qui abandonne son enseignement au bout de quelques semaines. Qu'à cela ne tienne, si l'éducation sous toutes ses formes n'est pas son fort (la même mésaventure lui arrivera durant sa période scolaire peu en phase avec ses rêves et ambitions), la volonté et l'ardeur que Zimmer met à étudier en autodidacte l'amènent à envisager la musique suivant un oeil ouvert, dénué de tous préjugés. Si sa formation n'est pas académique, elle n'en reste pas moins variée et sous-tendue par une seule et unique chose : composer. Peu importent les commentaires environnants, peu importent les écueils, très vite la musique devient son langage favori. Quittant l'Allemagne pour l'Angleterre durant l'adolescence, Hans Zimmer s'embarque pour des années longues et tumultueuses dans un pays en plein essor musical, résolument tourné vers la modernité industrielle et technologique ...

I remember walking into an old school gym and hearing a barrage of wonderful sound... it was tight, lush, rocking, and loud. As I neared the stage to get a glimpse of the band generating this heat, I was amazed to see only three guys on stage. How could so much music be produced by so few?! I smiled at my girlfriend (now wife) who had brought me there, and I think she knew that I was in love... not with her, but with the band.
So began my introduction to Zebra some sixteen years ago (1982). It was a typical gig for the day - a St. Christopher's Catholic Youth dance in a New Orleans suburb. The place was packed, as usual, mostly teenage guys, too young for area bars, with a smattering of finely dressed females to keep things interesting. The band was roaring through a set of well-rehearsed originals mixed in with crowd-pleasing covers from Zeppelin, Bowie, the Moody Blues, ZZ Top, Montrose, and others....
