Randall William Rhoads was born on December 6, 1956 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. With one brother (Doug) and one sister (Kathy), Randy was the youngest of three. When Randy was 17 months old his father, William Arthur Rhoads, a public school music teacher, left and all three children were raised by their mother, Delores Rhoads. William Rhoads would later remarry, producing Dan and Paul,... "half" brothers to Randy.

Randy started taking guitar lessons around the age of 6 or 7 at a music school in North Hollywood called Musonia (pictured), which was owned by his mother. His first guitar was a Gibson (acoustic) that belonged to Delores Rhoads’ father. Randy and his sister (Kathy) both began folk guitar lessons at the same time with Randy later taking piano lessons (at his mother’s request) so that he could learn to read music. Randy’s piano lessons did not last very long. At the age of 12, Randy became interested in rock guitar ...

Jimmie Vaughan is far more than just one of the greatest and most respected guitarists in the world of popular music. As Guitar Player Magazine notes, "He is a virtual deity--a living legend." After all, Vaughan provides a vital link between contemporary music and its proud heritage, as well as being a longtime avatar of retro cool.

Since releasing his first solo album in 1994, he has set the standard for quality modern roots music. Throughout his career, Vaughan has earned the esteem of his legendary guitar-playing heroes and superstar peers along with successive generations of young players. His musical ethos and personal style have had an impact on contemporary culture, from spearheading the current blues revival with The Fabulous Thunderbirds to his longtime, innate fashion sense of slicked-back hair and sharp vintage threads (now seen throughout the pages of contemporary fashion journals) to becoming a premier designer of classic custom cars. But for Jimmie Vaughan, none of it is part of a crusade or a career plan. It's just his natural way of living his life and pursuing the interests that have captivated Vaughan since his youth.

Now, with his third solo release and Artemis Records debut, Do You Get The Blues?, Vaughan has fashioned his most compelling and appealing musical statement yet, creating a rich and variegated masterpiece of 21st Century rhythm and blues. From the first notes of the opening instrumental, "Dirty Girl," it's clear that Vaughan has created a contemporary classic. Driven by Vaughan's lyrical guitar work, the skin-tight drumming of George Rains and the verdant Hammond B-3 work of the song's writer, Bill Willis (whose long career includes work on the seminal R&B and blues sides issued by King Records as well as stints with Freddie King and Lavern Baker), the song speaks volumes without a single word, and sets a tone of distinctive and emotion-laden musical articulation that continues throughout the disc ...

Adam Rafferty:
Steeped in the music of the bebop era and well-versed in the organ combo style as codified by Wes Montgomery and George Benson, Adam Rafferty has established himself as one of the most refined, recognizable guitarists in New York. His playing is distinguished by a warm tone, a biting attack, and an ability to swing hard - and melodically - in every situation. His chops are abundant, yet he makes a point of avoiding technical displays, seeking instead to lock in with his band and make every moment count. Adam's exceptional musicianship can be heard to full effect on his third CD (and his first trio outing), "Kush" (Consolidated Artists Productions 955), featuring music by Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Corea, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, and of course, Adam Rafferty.

Born in New York City in 1969, Adam got his start playing with rock and R&B bands, and even co-led a rap group called "Raf and Cooly-C." He studied classical guitar at SUNY Purchase, but around 1987 he caught the jazz bug and began intensive studies with pianist Mike Longo, a member of Dizzy Gillespie's bands from '64 to '71. From Mike, Adam learned not only harmony and theory, but also the rhythmic principles that form the foundation of jazz - principles that Mike had learned from Dizzy Gillespie himself. Indeed, it is Adam's firm grasp of rhythm - his unfailing "pocket" - that sets his playing apart. He soon had gigs lined up in Harlem with organist Jimmy "Preacher" Robbins and trumpeter Tippy Larkin. Over the years he has supported groups featuring Frank Wess, Benny Golson, Gloria Lynn, and more ...

Tony McManus: guitarplayer:
virtuosity from the soul.
To find a unique voice on so ubiquitous an instrument as the acoustic guitar is quite
an achievement: to do so within a centuries old idiom where the instrument has no real history is truly remarkable. In little over ten years as a professional musician Tony McManus has come to be recognised throughout the world as the leading guitarist in Celtic Music. From early childhood his twin obsessions of traditional music and acoustic guitar have worked together to produce a startlingly original approach to this ancient art. In Tony’s hands the complex ornamentation normally associated with fiddles and pipes are accurately transferred to guitar in a way that preserves the integrity and emotional impact of the music.
Self taught from childhood, initially through listening to the family record collection, McManus abandoned academia in his twenties to pursue music full time. The session scene in Glasgow and Edinburgh provided the springboard for gigs around Scotland and a studio set for BBC Radio, frequently rebroadcast, began to spread the word.

With the loyal support of Greentrax Recordings in Scotland Tony’s first self titled recording in 1996, followed by Pourquoi Quebec in 1999 led to worldwide recognition ...
