A native of Brazil, Aliéksey Vianna is one of the few guitarists equally at ease in the worlds of jazz and classical music alike. While still an undergraduate, Vianna distinguished himself by winning first place honors in the Portland Festival Solo Guitar Competition (1998), second place in the prestigious Stotsenberg International Guitar Competition (1997), first place in the Schaeffer Guitar Competition (1995), first place in the Sholin Memorial Guitar Competition (1997) and first place in the Ralph Stevens Guitar Competition (1997). He also received the Tucson Jazz Society award (1995) and the Herb Ellis Award as best jazz guitarist at the 1997 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
An international concert artist, Vianna has given solo and ensemble recitals in the United States, Brazil, Mexico and France, and performed in master classes of Abel Carlevaro, Oscar Gighlia, David Leisner, Sharon Isbin, Ivan Rijos, Scott Tennant, Gordon O'Brien, Paul O'Dette, Nigel North and Ralph Towner. At one of Vianna's recent solo concerts, the music reviewer Ken Keuffel, Jr. from the Arizona Daily Star praised his performance, writing: "Vianna brings loads of personality to his playing . . . making every lick come alive with polish and fire" ...
James Robinson:
As founder of Favored Nations, the legendary Steve Vai has built a thriving creative home for guitar legends dedicated to fostering the art of their axe, most recently adding James Robinson to its ever diversifying roster. With the release of James Robinson's stylistically expansive label debut Colours, Favored Nations shows a deep commitment to the future of the instrument.
One listen to the Bay Area native's virtuosity, emotionally compelling melodies and rhythmically eclectic grooves which range from Latin, Funk, Middle Eastern and straightforward jazz will no doubt inspire guitar fans the world over to echo Larry Carlton’s sentiments upon hearing Robinson’s music for the first time: "James is an extraordinary talent that deserves to be heard". Robinson, who counts Carlton as one of his boyhood guitar idols, met Vai through Carlton, and Vai was immediately hooked: "He's phenomenal!"
Robinson released two widely acclaimed independent CDs, his self-titled 1997 debut (which featured electric and steel string in addition to acoustic) and 2000's Tumbling Into The Sky.
In 2003, the year he originally released Colours independently, Robinson won San Francisco radio station KKSF's Bay Area Artist Contest. As a result, the album's opening track, flamenco flavored "Tales of Change," was featured on the KKSF CD Sampler for AIDS Relief, Volume 14 ...

An accomplished jazz, pop, funk, gospel, fingerstyle, and contemporary Christian guitarist, Mark is noted for his soaring and melodic electric leads similar to Larry Carlton; his smooth, jazzy, nylon guitar stylings like those of artists Jonathan Butler and Peter White; and his smooth/jazzy/funky rhythm playing inspired by studio giant Paul Jackson, jr. (Paul Jackson, Jr. is guitarist for BeBe & CeCe Winans, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandros, Anita Baker, and many more).
From jazz guitar legend to soul-pop vocalist extraordinaire, 8-time Grammy® winner George Benson has cultivated an international fan base as well as tremendous critical acclaim for three things: incomparable versatility, first-class execution in all he does and, perhaps most importantly, for never being predictable. These are the qualities that have made the man a one-of-a-kind giant in the universe of music, thus lending a fitting ring to the title of his fourth album for GRP/Verve, Irreplaceable. It is an emotional gemstone of seemingly effortless consistency for the superstar who has been dominating the worlds of smooth jazz and NAC radio. Irreplaceable marks a directional shift back to silky sexy soul music…with a decidedly contemporary urban edge....
