Welcome, and thanks for visiting the Ambush Custom Bass web site. I appreciate your interest in my basses. As musicians, we all search for that instrument which will allow us to express our inner voice. An instrument that is versatile, yet has a voice of its own. One that challenges us to higher levels of performance, while quickly becoming a familiar friend. I believe the Ambush Custom Bass is that instrument; I hope that you will, too.
I've combined the best of the old and new to create a bass for the times. The bodies are made from proven tone woods like Ash and Alder laminated with exotic wood tops in the interest of modern esthetics. The necks are made from a graphite reinforced composite, are topped with resin impregnated wood fingerboards, and feature an adjustable truss rod. This advanced approach is balanced by the fact that these necks are made in a mold taken from a hard wood prototype I hand carved myself. You get a deadspot free, ultimately stable, adjustable composite neck with the feel of a limited production, handcarved instrument ...

The Gallagher family settled in the Wartrace area in the 1820's. J.W. Gallagher was born in 1915 and lived in the same house in which he was born until his death in 1979.
J.W. Gallagher first began woodworking as a cabinet maker in Wartrace in 1939. He made fine quality furniture. However, by 1965 J.W. Gallagher was making guitars exclusively.
Don Gallagher, the fifth generation Gallagher in Wartrace was born in 1947. He literally grew up working in his father's shop. In the early 1960's he closely assisted his father in development of the guitar business. In 1976, Don Gallagher assumed the responsibility of operating the family business when his father semi-retired.

Alberico Guitars: The first thing you will notice about my guitars is their simple beauty. I identify very strongly with the Arts & Crafts architectural and design movement of the early 1900’s, which was a reaction to the growing use of machines to produce cheap copies of elaborate Victorian designs. Too often today, the term "handmade" is applied to guitars built by an assembly line of workers putting together identical parts that have been cut by computer-controlled machinery. These guitars usually rely on the use of inlay for embellishment. The beauty of my guitars comes instead from the careful selection and use of materials in a way that emphasizes their inherent natural qualities. Ornamentation comes mainly from the grain of the wood, the joinery, and the hardware. Design elements of my guitars emphasize honest lines, natural materials, and superior craftsmanship. Special attention goes into choosing harmonious colors for all components to bring out the most desirable attributes of the woods ...
