Description
Big Chief is a band that expands from four to six pieces to suit the event. Formerly known as Big Chief and the Continentals the band was originated in 1989 and like good wine has grown better with age. The core members are Sam Hall, Jeff Davison, Dave Thibodeau and Steve Lynnworth. A keyboardist and a vocalist are added as requested and both positions are chosen from a field of star players. Within the four piece band there are four strong voices to create a unique variety of singing styles and harmonies. The backbone of the Big Chief sound emanates from the strong rhythm section making it easy for any of the hand picked guest musicians to easily find firm footing. The band visits many musical areas including swing era classics ala Ellington and Sinatra up to and including classic soul and rock favorites with a New Orleans party number thrown in to get the dance floor boiling. Along the way don’t be surprised to hear some Chuck Berry, Stevie Ray Vaughan or even the Beatles. In short something for everybody!

Winnie says: ‘In 1992 Ritch and me started Blue Moon Special with Huub Urlings on double bass with the concept we still have today: Rock 'n' Roll with two saxophones, tenor and baritone. To name a few horns we had in the band: Onno van Swighem and Erwin van der Does, Paul Berding and Floor Massee, Sebastian Ohm, Wouter Kiers and Ruud de Vries. For the last couple of years we have on baritone Erwin van der Does and Quinten Kray on tenor, and hopefully for years to come! Hans van der Velde is a steady factor on double bass since 1997.
We are inspired by Big Band- and combo Swing, Rhythm & Blues, Eddie Cochran, Django Reinhardt, Gene Krupa, Big Jay McNeely, Johnny Otis, Benny Goodman and more.
We are vintage freaks in our own way and old enough to be called experts. I mean the stuff we play and the stuff we play on. And all for one reason, play our brand of Rock 'n' Roll.

Every now and again, Elvis himself (who never did have such constraints) appears at the microphone for a little hubba-hubba. And for those of you still wondering what ever happened to Glenn Miller that fateful night his plane disappeared, the truth is now revealed -- he got offered the job as bandleader for this unlikely melange of musical talent and had to fly off in a hurry for the first gig! ...

The Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra is a swing band for today, with its own distinctive songs and sound - light-hearted, energetic, witty, romantic feel good music - made by six brass, five reeds, four rhythm and four singers, all playing and singing their hearts out. Elliott began his career as a rock'n'roll piano player, touring and recording with such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, and many others, before finding his calling as a swingmeister while writing and arranging songs for the 1989 film DICK TRACY. The Swing Orchestra, formed in 1993, was an outgrowth of Elliott's continuing success in writing original, vintage-sounding swing music for film, television, and commercials. He has assembled many of L.A.'s hottest musicians for his mission of recreating the authentic fire and style of big bands at their peak in the late '30s.
