David Dart is a long time instrument maker and musician originally from Claremont, California. He now lives in Navarro, a small hamlet in Northern, rural California. David grew up in a musical family, but is mostly self taught as a luthier. Dave got his start as a teenager doing repair work in Charles Chase's Folk Music Center in Claremont, Ca. His first instrument was a Dulcimer at age 14. David has made a wide variety of musical instruments including Violins, a variety of guitars, Renaissance style reproductions and Middle Eastern style instruments.
Dave plays all the instruments he makes, sometimes solo and sometimes with various bands or groups. The ensemble he plays with most often is "Wild Oats" which specializes in 3 part harmonies. His repertoire includes: Blue Grass, Old Timey, Blues, and Folk. He has also been known to play country rock and rock and roll ...

Guy was onderwijzer en volgt reeds het derde jaar cursus in het Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw te Puurs. Met toewijding, vakmanschap en vooral veel geduld wijdt hij zich aan zijn hobby.
De bagpack en de gitaar zijn opgelegde stukken, gemaakt tijdens de cursus. Momenteel staat de "archtop" gitaar op het programma.
Zijn passie gaat echter verder. Met de opgedane kennis en veel opzoekingswerk bouwt hij met succes zijn eerste viool. Zijn zoon speelt contrabas, dus staat dit instrument ook op stapel. Een prototype van een elektrische contrabas is reeds af.
Dochter Jo tekent, schildert en musiceert! Zij zingt, (voornamelijk Vlaamse, Ierse en Bretoense volksmuziek) speelt dwarsfuilt, tin whistle en..de door Guy zelfgebouwde harp.
Het bouwen van de contrabas kunt u uitgebreid volgen op deze site van een gepassionneerd instrumentenbouwer.
De "rugzakgitaar" of "bagpack".
Dit is het eindproduct van het voorbereidend jaar aan het Centrum voor Instrumentenbouw te Puurs.
Kennismaking met hout, schaven, schuren, meten, passen, lijmen enz...
Alle instrumenten worden volledig met de hand vervaardigd.
gitaar, martin#1, archtop, viool, contrabas, harp,hommel: Het instrument Hommel, ook vlier, blokviool, épinette, of pinet genoemd, is een traditioneel volksinstrument met snaren dat in zijn vorm terug te vinden is in West- en Noord Europa. Het instrument behoort tot de familie van de dulcimers en de citers. De benamingen ervan verschillen van streek tot streek. In noord-Frankrijk en vooral in de Vogezen spreekt men van de épinette des Vosges, soms citare à bourdons genoemd
Typisch aan dit instrument is de doordringende toon van de begeleidings- of bourdonsnaren welke als klank ook aanwezig zijn bij de draailier en de doedelzak, behorende tot de bourdoninstrumenten. De heldere en soms ijle melodie wordt gevormd door het indrukken van de melodiesnaren met een drukstokje of met de vingers. Het betokkelen van de snaren met een plectrum doet enigszins denken aan de klank van een klavecimbel.

I've been playing the guitar for more than 30 years (an eternal intermediate!). Last year I build my first acoustic guitar. I've recently started on my second guitar, armed with a lot of knowledge of what (and what NOT) to do this time around. I would like to share my experience with you. I made the back and sides out of Macassar Ebony and the top is Engelman Spruce. The binding is Bloodwood (more on this later).
