Pearl Jam & Mike McCready site with the latest news, guitar tabs (over 400!!), mp3s, concert of the month, and much much more!
Mike McCready was born on April 5, 1966, in Pensacola, Florida. I'm not sure why his family ended up in Seattle but I know they moved there shortly after Mike's birth. An only child, his mother was an elementary school art teacher and his father was a city employee. His parents were into artists like Hendrix and Santana, and as a child mike would soak them in while beating his dad's bongo drums with pencils. By the time he reached the age of 10 his friends had turned him onto Kiss and Aerosmith. Shortly after his 11th birthday he walked into Kennelly Keys, a local music store, and purchased his first electric guitar, a Mateo Les Paul Copy that he still owns.
Mike began to take lessons with a local instructor Mike Wilson. He began learning the licks and styles of Joe Perry and Ritchie Blackmore, but mainly Paul Stanley: "I worship Kiss. They're the whole reason I started playing guitar." Soon after Mike discovered, playing out of his 10-watt Fender Champ, something that would change his life forever-FEEDBACK!!!: "I used to play 'smoke on the water', and I remember my dad coming up and yelling at me because I was getting feed back out of my amp; I just thought it was really cool." By the eighth grade Mike formed his first band Warrior, which shortly after was renamed Shadow ...

Lonnie Knight is a singer, guitarist and songwriter based in Minneapolis Minnesota. Lonnie's cds include Better Days, Cain's Blood, Big Shoes and Standing Around Until the End.

Lonnie Knight’s guitar playing alone has astonished nearly everyone who’s seen it happen during the past four decades, from his days in Jokers Wild to his role in the Hoopsnakes. It’s made him a multiple winner over the years for best guitarist at the Minnesota Music Awards.
Tall and thin, his presence while playing the guitar gives him the appearance of an authority looking down calmly on his six-string subject; but it's the actual sound from the instrument, the pure music he makes of the guitar, that confirms the authority.

His songwriting began with Jokers Wild, but over time it was refining itself to the folk-oriented work that anchored two Lonnie Knight albums in the 1970s. He was working as a studio musician at Herb Pilhofer's Sound 80 Recording Studio, and touring nationally on the Bitter End College Coffeehouse. Producer George Hanson took a liking to Knight's playing. Hanson produced his first album Family in the Wind, which was followed up with Song for a City Mouse. The title was an homage to the Mankato band in which Knight played for several years in the early 1970s. That relationship began when Knight was playing with the Chad Mitchell Group and met City Mouse founder Bill Steiner. Throughout the 70s, Knight continued a prolific career playing in studio and on stage ...

Tony Rice has long been one of bluegrass’s best-loved guitarists. From his
stint with JD Crowe’s New South and the David Grisman Quintet, to his solo albums and those with the Tony Rice Unit,
the Rice Brothers, and Rice, Rice, Hillman & Pedersen, he has created a body of work that is at once progressive and
grounded in tradition. His unmistakable approach to flat-picking - fluid, economical, and always inventive - redefined
the guitar’s role in bluegrass. Beyond that, his timing, good taste, and sophisticated harmonic palette unveiled a new
avenue of acoustic music: a subtle fusion of bluegrass, jazz, and folk music that he deems 'spacegrass.'

Pat Travers was born in Toronto, Canada on April 12, 1954. Soon after picking up the guitar at age 12 Pat saw the legend Jimi Hendrix perform in Ottawa. This obvious inspirational concert must have sparked the young Pat to go after the dream of becoming a star like so many of his early influences. Inspired by such guitarists as Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, Pat began playing in bands early in his teens. His first bands were "Red Hot" and "Merge" who played in Quebec area clubs. While the early years were hard, they would eventually pay off in the form of improved musicianship, style, and exposure.

While performing with Merge, he was noticed by the 50's rock artist Ronnie Hawkins who soon had Pat off on the road performing with him. While Hawkins music was mostly old rock and roll, country and rockabilly, Pat used this experience to hone his skills and voice as Hawkins lead guitarist. After a year on the road with Hawkins, Pat traded in the tuxedoes and ties to go after his true dream, to have his own band and become a star....

Guitarist Sheryl Bailey is rated among the foremost bopbased guitarists to have emerged in the 1990’s. Her attack can be direct and hard swinging, but she also exudes subtlety, elegance of phrase and a pure, warm, liquid sound. Bill Milkowski has written about her: “ a modernist burner with an abundance of Pat Martino-style chops, Bailey prefers angular lines, odd harmonies and the occasional touch of dissonance as she sails up and down the fretboard with fluid abandon.” – JazzTimes Magazine, Februrary 2005

Her musical activities aren’t confined to groups working strictly in the orthodox, bop based jazz tradition, as she has toured and recorded with bassist, Richard Bona and is a member of David Krakauer’s Klezmer Madness. Other artists are tenor saxophonist, Gary Thomas, Urban Folk and Jazz artist, KJ Denhert, and pop diva, Irene Cara. While her mid 1990’s CD Little Misunderstood sees her playing with total familiarity and command of the fusion idiom, her latest releases, Reunion of Souls, The Power of Three, and Bull’s Eye represent her love of contemporary straight-ahead jazz.

In 1995 Sheryl was awarded third place in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Guitar Competition, and has toured South America on behalf of the US State Department as a Jazz Ambassador, honoring the music of Duke Ellington. She currently leads her own trio, The Sheryl Bailey Three (Gary Versace on Hammond B3 and Ian Froman on drums). Her 2002 release, The Power of Three was critically acclaimed and charted in the top 20 of the Jazz Week radio charts. The trio conjures the essence of the Grant Green/ Larry Young/ Elvin Jones band of the late 60’s.

She is also in demand as an educator. Sheryl has been an Assistant Professor of Guitar at the esteemed Berklee College of Music since 2000, and has been a popular clinician at the National Guitar Summer workshop, The Stanford Jazz Workshop, The Duquesne Jazz Guitar Seminar, Uarts in Philadelphia, and at Southern Cross University in Lismore, Australia.

Sheryl’s latest release is titled, Bull’s Eye. The CD features nine new compositions and tightly woven improvisations from the trio. A track from the disc, “ Old and Young Blues” will be featured in the Master Anthology of Jazz solos, vol. IV by Mel Bay in January 2005. She is also working on a book for Mel Bay about modern approaches to jazz improvisation. She keeps a hectic itinerary touring, teaching, and recording.
