MLSSA by DRA Laboratories is the loudspeaker industry's standard measurement system. MLSSA is also used by automakers, recording studios, acousticians and government agencies to measure sound systems, room acoustics and speech intelligibility.
The MLSSA Remote Controlled Analog Interface (RCAI) is now available. The RCAI allows you to perform both frequency response and impedance measurements of loudspeakers without pausing to switch cables or change the MLSSA setup. Impedance and frequency response curves can be displayed and printed together on the same graph. Reference loopback measurements of even the highest powered amplifiers are performed automatically and safely. The RCAI also includes a four-input microphone multiplexer for automated spatially averaged room measurements. Up to four units can be daisy chained to expand the number of inputs and/or power amplifiers supported by a single MLSSA 2000 card.

The acoustical geometry and set-up of your studio control room has a tremendous impact on your ability to get the sound you want as well as a mix that will transfer to other listening environments.
Noise vs. Acoustics
"Noise" refers to non-musical sounds that affect your environment, while "acoustics" refers to how sound is perceived in a given environment. If you are designing a new studio but haven't dealt with noise issues, whether they stem from a refrigerator in the next room or buses on the street, then you're wasting your money.
The amount of noise you can accept in your studio depends on what you can live with and what kind or work—demos or final mixes, for instance—you do. Typically, a noise floor level rating of STC20 (approximately 20 dB A) is considered reasonable for mixing. On the other hand, there have been successful recordings made in what I would call "hostile environments." It depends on the type of work you are doing. The other noise floor is determined by the limitations of your recording equipment. Do a subjective equipment noise floor test by cranking up the volume in the quiet passages of something you've mixed and listen to the thermal noise and other things that hiss and crack below the level of the music. This may give you an indication of the noise limitations of your recording and playback system ...
