The Kitchen is located in the college town of Chapel Hill, NC. Situated twenty miles west of Raleigh, NC, Chapel Hill is the home of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The area boasts three major universities, an international airport, the Research Triangle Park, numerous fine eateries, coffee houses, boutiques, museums, hotels and wine bars. In addition, the local club scene strongly supports all forms of original music. Also known as the 'Paris of the Piedmont', Chapel Hill is truly an intellectual and cultural gem planted firmly in the deep south.
The Kitchen Mastering was founded in 1991 by engineer Brent Lambert and his wife Kirsten. Brent studied applied music and music engineering at the prestigious University of Miami. After a brief career as a jazz guitarist and sideman, Brent turned his efforts back towards engineering. Cutting his teeth on both regional and national commercial production and mastering for b&k Productions, his efforts turned towards music after many requests by local artists to achieve the strong radio-friendly sound that b&k was known for. Hence, the Kitchen Mastering was born. Grounded by one of the first SADiE mastering systems sold in the U.S., Brent and the Kitchen Mastering slowly built a reputation as the mastering house in the Mid-Atlantic region. Mammoth Records, formerly located in Chapel Hill, offered many opportunities for Brent and the Kitchen to master numerous national releases - including one platinum and one gold record. The international exposure that Mammoth afforded both Brent and the Kitchen created a larger following of producers, artists, engineers, and labels that considered the Kitchen Mastering their mastering house of choice.
In 1999 the Kitchen built a new facility designed by noted acoustician John Arthur Jr. of Miami based acoustic design firm JADG. Within a year, the Kitchen was covered as an emerging national mastering facility by Pro Sound Newsand considered as one of the top twenty mastering facilities in the US by Mix Magazine.
Today, Brent, assistant engineer Aaron Oliver, and the ace office staff of Ann Jones and Kirsten Lambert continue to grow the Kitchen Mastering as one of the premier mastering facilities in the Southeastern United States. To date, the Kitchen has mastered projects for every major record label in the United States and numerous independent labels and artists.
We hope that you will consider the Kitchen as your mastering house of choice on your current project.
