I am very particular when it comes to wood procurement. Fortunately, I have been able to acquire some really fantastic sound board woods all considered to be AAA grade in nature, close grained and well seasoned. Cedar and spruce being the most common sound board woods, while the rosewoods, mahoganies and maples being the most used back and side woods. All of my customers are welcome to view and discuss the wood I select for their guitars. Like all serious guitar makers, I will only use wood that is well quarter sawn. All of my brace wood is split from billets to insure against grain run-out which can affect tone production and strength quality ...

The guitar, so much of Flamenco like classical it has been the passion of this man.
Apart from the wood [tradicionaales] in the production, like the [palosanto] of Indians and the cypress, we used another like the Spanish walnut, the [limoncillo], [palorrosa], [palisandro].
La guitarra, tanto de flamenco como clásica ha sido la pasión de este hombre.
La iniciativa de construir guitarras por parte de Manuel Villafranca, nace a la edad de 17 años cuando comienza a hacer sus ensayos sobre el tronco de un árbol del que lo vacía y construye su primera guitarra. Posteriormente realiza trabajos en carpintería y ebanistería, a lo que dedicaría gran parte de su vida, tanto en España como en Francia. Sus conocimientos en estos trabajos y tras la vuelta de Francia le hicieron retomar nuevamente su afición por la guitarra y desde el año 1991 se dedica plenamente a la construcción de las mismas, en donde poco a poco va depurando la técnica en la construcción y perfeccionando el sonido ...

All this started in 1982 in a little house-workshop as a family business manufacturing hand-made instruments for individual orders. The name Mayones itself comes from a company founder nickname. The production process of a single guitar took the average of 2-3 months then, in the early eighties. But thanks to our passion and commitment, or maybe for the simple fact that we were like pioneers on the Polish market, the orders were soon coming in dramatically faster than they could be filled. And recalling these memories, Poland of the communism era, we remember people queuing in front of our door the night before they could finally get their guitar... But this was the way Mayones became guitars & basses icon, and till today – the finest Polish bands have been using our gear.
And just after Poland's transition into a free-market economy, the timing was right to make a good use of new possibilities. We could finally invest in high precision machines and modern facilities. But the core is still people - because here at Mayones every single guitar or bass is hand-built by our team of 20 craftsmen and engineers. So when you play our instrument, you can feel their talent, hardwork and years of experience. That’s why every instrument is distinctive and a class for its own ...
