Empirical Labs Inc. (ELI), designs and produces professional audio equipment and software. This includes equipment used in recording studios, live sound, broadcast studios and other audio production facilities etc. We also make software for digital signal processors. Most of you are here because you have heard about or used our Distressor. This product, which is our first hardware product, was designed in 1994, tested and revised for several years, and released in early 1996. The Distressor is the first in a series of audio products from ELI that will offer original features, ease of use, long product life, and a very musical audio path.
Empirical Labs was started in 1988 and functioned mainly as a recording studio and electronics consulting firm. The founder, Dave Derr, was also employed at the time by Eventide as an audio engineer. Dave was part of the core design team for the H3000, H3500, and DSP4000. His experience at Eventide proved valuable for his later work. While working alongside Ken Bogdanowicz and Bob Belcher (both now at Wave Mechanics), Dave was exposed to great engineering and the modern world of digital signal processing (DSP).
Lange Engineering: As a privately owned and fully independent company, Lange Engineering has been Established by Hans Andreas Lange, original founder of Delta Loudspeakers back in 1992 and designer of all it's product range until 2005; The company addresses a range of application needs for the continually evolving consumer and professional audio products marketplace. Across its comprehensive product portfolio Lange Engineering preserves its hallmark value proposition to deliver the best price-to-audio performance. The audio industry is truly an example of science in the service of audible artistry. We have come a long way towards our goal of perfection, and almost all of the consequential progress has been the result of improvements in our knowledge of physical principles, measurements, and our understanding of the psycho-acoustical rules that relate what we measure to what we hear. Developing ways to listen, scientifically, was a key part of this voyage. All through this company there is a central theme: the love of music, and its perfect reproduction. The product reveals its origins, and shouts the Company's values.
With its picturesque lake among breathtaking mountain peaks, the city of Lugano in Southern Switzerland is an unusual setting for a loudspeaker manufacturer. However, it is the home of Andreas Lange, founder of Delta Loudspeakers who, having spent the best part of a decade going about his business on a relatively local scale, is now taking his growing range of products to the European, American and Asia-Pacific markets. The loudspeaker market may be congested, but there is always demand for technological innovations, reliability and superb sonic qualities.
After providing hire speaker systems, such as Altec Lansing, for parties and events during his schooldays, Lange developed a passion for loudspeaker design. ‘It all really started when I bought a pair of Altec A7-8G theatre speakers and took them apart to see how they worked,’ he says. From here it was a small step to founding Delta Loudspeakers in 1992. ‘I had the confidence to build a long folded horn with a 15-inch woofer with lots of bass, which sounded OK and this gave me further impetus to take my passion further,’ he explains.
But Lange realised he couldn’t market a loudspeaker without the support of a specification sheet or any verifying data. ‘I saved up and invested in testing and measurement equipment, which is very expensive, but you need to accurately calibrate your equipment in large open spaces. I bought a Neutrik 3330 audio analyser and, in 1993, I developed the 9318, which for its day was ahead of its time’ ...
Manufacturer of Acoustic Pickups for Acoustic and Electric Stringed Instruments and Drums.
Pick-up the World began twenty-five years ago when luthier David Enke tried in vain to find a good sounding acoustic pickup for his hand made instruments. All of the available products seemed to be strong in one or two areas, but weak in others. Ridiculous combinations of pickups were employed in an attempt to solve these problems, and resulted in a jumbled mess of electronic hell that sounded o.k. as long as nobody moved. After an Audio Electronics degree, and many years as a highly respected instrument technician in Boulder, CO., David started designing and building his own pickup systems and amplifiers. He experimented profusely with a wide number of piezo ceramic materials that compared very favorably against over the counter products, but he was still never completely satisfied. Many artists sought him out for his ability to custom tailor pick-ups for their exotic 'world' instruments and any other instruments that manufacturers had not bothered to address. Many of his early designs are still in use.
The release to the public domain of a radical aerospace material led to the development of a line of pickups that are so accurate they inspire. They can be configured to virtually every stringed instrument without modification, and support the vast majority of drums as well.
Pick-up the World believes that the more directly people work with reality that the better off they are in any aspect of life. For acoustic musicians, it has always been a challenge to maintain an intimate relationship with their instruments while they're being amplified. Despite advances in microphone designs, recording engineers are still actively pursuing ways to capture a more natural sound from acoustic instruments.
Our company mission is to provide the highest quality pickups for all the stringed and percussive instruments of the world. We support unusual, one of a kind, and rare instruments, and respect the integrity and intentions of the original designs. Pick-up the World is dedicated to the advancement of civilization and cultural awareness by providing precision transducers for the music of the world. We currently manufacture ten separate models of sensors, and most can be configured into unlimited applications. Our technology is so revolutionary, that within two weeks of its release, three professional luthiers began producing entirely new instruments based on our products.
Our pickups generate audio signals that are linear, very low noise, and accurate. They do not affect an instrument's sound or playability, and are designed to last for a lifetime. We provide complete user interface, switching, and cable options, and most installations require little or no permanent modification to the instrument.
Our pickup models are very user friendly, and are designed to be installed by the customer. The products are environmentally friendly, and are manufactured by hand in the U.S.
Pick-up the World is dedicated to the advancement of honesty and understanding. To this end, we support musicians, health practitioners, and engineers with the most vibrationaly honest technology for their audio and research applications.
