Music from Ensemble Sub Masa,
influenced by klezmer, hungarian, romanian, classical, turkish,
and transylvanian.
Ensemble Sub Masa will take you on a journey through Eastern Europe where you can hear music from the Cafes of Budapest, the villages of rural Transylvania, Jewish getherings, Roma parties, and finally we'll dump you on the streets of Bucharest where you'll find your way through the partisan speeches to a little backdoor club. Here you'll hear some hot dance tunes and nostalgic tangos from yesteryear. So come to the party, bring your dancing shoes, and an appetite for drink. We welcome you with open arms.

The New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars (NOKAS) have carried on with their own interpretation of the klezmer tradition since 1991. New Orleans, where arcane cultural borrowing is normal, seems to be a natural home for a music that has always blended diverse styles. Yet, "when we first started playing this music, people had no idea what it was (many still don't)," explains Arthur Kastler, the band's original bass player, "They would stand there with their jaws open.... But right away, they danced."
Oy Klezmer:
One of the hottest trends in international music today is the revival of Klezmer, which features the soulful and exhilarating melodies of Eastern Europe. Oy Klezmer! is gaining acclaim throughout the Southeast for its authentic presentation of this distinctive folk genre which is spiced with Gypsy influences. Oy Klezmer! performances hearken back to the days of the original Klezmorim, professional itinerant Jewish musicians who played at festive occasions of Jewish and Christian communities across Europe.
Oy Klezmer!'s core ensemble for concerts is a quintet, comprised of clarinet, violin, accordion, tuba/bass and drums. Often, other talented guest performers join the ensemble to form a high-energy Klezmer dance band, including vocalists and a dance instructor/leader. They've been featured at festivals, weddings, bar-mitzvahs, anniversary parties and educational programs, earning enthusiastic praise, particularly from the old-timers who grew up hearing Klezmer in the "old country" ...

We are a four-piece ensemble: violin, clarinet, guitar/mandolin and bass. This allows us to play Klezmer music in the traditional style, taking advantage of the remarkable blend created by natural acoustic instruments. In our attempt to develop an individual sound, we combine the spirit of authentic Klezmer music with a modern edge, reviving the style with a virtuosic clarity and youthful energy without compromising the roots from which it came.
As a group of professional performers, educators and scholars, we are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the music we play. We have an extensive repertoire of Klezmer classics, Yiddish folksongs and Israeli melodies, and know how to create just the right mood for your occasion. We are available for a full range of simchas and special events, from weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, anniversaries and holidays to concerts and educational outreach programs.
