Garrison Guitars: Chris Griffiths was 12 years old when he first picked up a guitar. His professional interest in the guitar industry began at the age of 17, when he was trying to make a living as an amateur guitar repairman at a local music store. As a means of securing future employment within the industry, Chris apprenticed at the Gallop Guitar Hospital in Big Rapids, Michigan. Unfortunately, his professional education in guitar building did not equal the slowing local economy and Chris soon found himself out of a job. In 1993, at the ripe old age of 19, Chris started his first company in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. Griffiths Guitar Works had a simple mission, to defy the recession by selling high end, custom built acoustic and electric guitars at a time when his home province was pegged as the poorest in Canada. Unbelievably, it worked! Griffiths Guitar Works has grown from a one-man repair shop to the largest custom guitar store in Atlantic Canada ...

ScoGo Guitars builds custom-made unique through-neck guitars. Our handmade personalized guitars have a very wide tonal range and are incredibly comfortable to hold.
My first priority in making a guitar is making sure that it is mechanically sound. My background is in engineering, and I share my new designs with my friend, engineer and mechanical simulation guru, Le Phan, who then "builds" the guitar using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. We can "ask" the computer to calculate certain physical aspects of the design such as the weight and center of gravity. The computer shows where and how much the neck will bend under string tension. Care should be taken to insure that the neck on your guitar is right for you. Listen to your body on this one. Your music will be better for it. Many guitars seem to have been designed for looks first with comfort coming in a distant second. But a guitar should almost melt into the musician’s body while being played, and this should be true regardless of playing position. The player’s discomfort takes something away from the music ...
