george mccorkle
george mccorkle
Description
Music is George McCorkle’s passion. He has enjoyed great success with the Marshall Tucker Band, as a solo artist and through the legacy of songs that he is actively creating. “I’m not writing music and performing to try and be a major success,” George states. “I’m an artist and I’ve got something to say. And I need to say it. That’s sort of the way I look at it.”

Raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina from the time he was nearly two, George was born in nearby Chester, South Carolina. As the youngest of three brothers, he grew up poignantly aware of the long and hard hours his mother Mildred put in at the cotton mill. “We were a typical South Carolina mill family,” George remembers. “Very poor.” Through his life experiences he developed a strong and active work ethic ...

Randall William Rhoads was born on December 6, 1956 at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. With one brother (Doug) and one sister (Kathy), Randy was the youngest of three. When Randy was 17 months old his father, William Arthur Rhoads, a public school music teacher, left and all three children were raised by their mother, Delores Rhoads. William Rhoads would later remarry, producing Dan and Paul,... "half" brothers to Randy.

Randy started taking guitar lessons around the age of 6 or 7 at a music school in North Hollywood called Musonia (pictured), which was owned by his mother. His first guitar was a Gibson (acoustic) that belonged to Delores Rhoads’ father. Randy and his sister (Kathy) both began folk guitar lessons at the same time with Randy later taking piano lessons (at his mother’s request) so that he could learn to read music. Randy’s piano lessons did not last very long. At the age of 12, Randy became interested in rock guitar ...

Junior Brown: "A lot of people tell me they don't like country music, but they like what I am doing," says Junior Brown. "I hear that line more than anything else," which is ironic because a couple of licks is all it takes to erase any doubts concerning Junior's stylistic allegiance. His music combines the soul of country and the spirit of rock n' roll.

In Junior's case, playing everywhere from the Grand Ole Opry to rock showcases on the West Coast and his hometown of Austin, Texas, *crossover* is not synonymous with watered-down or light-weight. He says of his ever-growing legion of converts:

Just about the time they label me as some old time honkytonk singer, I throw something new in there that surprises them. And then they'll appreciate the traditional styles of country music too. Do something to wow them without ruining the roots of country and they end up accepting the music that they would have been prejudiced against.

Following years as Austin's best-kept secret, then a few more as the town's one must-see act for visiting musicians and label heads, Junior Brown and his music have since found an audience far beyond the Lone Star border. Junior's first two albums (12 Shades of Brown and Guit With It) have helped establish him as a crowd favorite from Texas roadhouses to the hippest clubs of New York City and Europe ...

Sure, Dave Beegle plays guitar. In fact he plays guitar so well that peers such as Phil Keaggy calls him "one of the most creative and accomplished guitarists I've met." Progression Magazine labeled Beegle "a guitarist's guitar player" and HM Magazine simply called him "just phenomenal." But Beegle is not "just" a guitarist. He is also a composer, a producer, a teacher and a musical activist remaining on the cutting edge of contemporary music. Hailing from the robust state of Colorado, Beegle makes an inspired sound that delights music fans willing to look beyond the fickle trends of pop.

Dave Beegle has a brand-new album featuring the Dave Beegle Acoustic Band, a unit including bassist Mike Olson, drummer Matt Henderson, percussionist Erik Meyer and guitarist Aaron Lee. Guest percussionist Christian Teele adds significantly to the overall rhythmic expression of this recording. The group has been performing together for several years and has created a distinctive world-music sound as a result. The CD is a blend of world and ethno-alternative fusion with a hearty kick of rock-n-roll inspired energy, leaving this progressive acoustic contribution in a unique musical atmosphere sure to interest those with exotic and sophisticated tastes. From Spanish and Flamenco melodies to Middle Eastern and Balkan flavored arrangements, the Dave Beegle Acoustic Band will take you on a journey 'Beyond the Desert' to a place of tuneful bliss.

Where it all began, however, was with Beegle's electric guitar outlet, Fourth Estate. This groundbreaking power trio led the charge of progressive rock in Colorado in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s. To this day, Beegle still books Fourth Estate gigs, playing with Kenny James and Matt Henderson on drums and Mike Olson on bass, and Fourth Estate's instrumental music remains dramatic, inspiring and exotic. New and old Fourth Estate fans are currently enjoying the re-release of the band's debut CD, "Finesse and Fury," re-mastered by rock veteran Stevin McNamara. A new release, "Dustbuster Demos," digs back into the group's earliest recordings to uncover some forgotten gems. Also, Fourth Estate's electric masterpiece, "See What I See," featuring their most challenging work on record, has been reissued to offer fans the opportunity to hear it all.

But electric rock has not been Beegle's only means of expression. All along, as a parallel career, he has been playing acoustic guitar as a solo act, in duo formats and as a pivotal part of the innovative acoustic-based group, the Beegle-Olson-Quist Trio. In the year 2000, Beegle released "A Year Closer," an album that explores Flamenco and other world music styles with solo acoustic recordings and the first tracks by the Dave Beegle Acoustic Band ...

Dodi Battaglia: guitar:

In a career that spans 25 years, Michael Card has recorded over 20 albums, authored or co-authored over 14 books, hosted two radio programs, and written for a wide range of magazines. While he has penned such favorites as "El Shaddai," "Love Crucified Arose," and "Emmanuel," he never imagined selling more than 4 million albums or writing over 19 #1 hits. The popularity of his work seemed a stark contrast to his goal in life, to simply, and quietly teach the Bible.

Although music provided him the opportunity to share insights gained through extensive research, writing songs alone limited what he felt called to share. Card would frequently agonize over having to condense the vast depth and richness of scripture into a three-minute song. And so he fell, quite naturally, into the field of book writing where he has garnered numerous awards.

As Card continued on his quest to teach the Bible, he was encouraged to follow his dream of hosting a radio program entitled Joy in the Journey. Today it continues as In the Studio with Michael Card and is broadcast on the Moody Radio Network. The structure of each show is based on Card's three passions: community, creativity and commentary. Card believes that it is out of community the gospel really comes to life.

Never one to compartmentalize his spiritual life, Card's quest for community slowly seeped into his professional life as he began to write articles and books on topics that captured his imagination through conversations with Bible teachers, friends and contemporaries in both Christian music and the academic community.

Brennan Manning, Dr. Calvin Seerveld, Dr. Larry Crabb, Kirk Whalum, Dr. George Guthrie, Don Wyrtzen, J.I. Packard and the late Dr. William Lane – from people known for their academic biblical contributions to Grammy-award winning musicians, Card is the first to note what an amazing community of friends and contemporaries he has had the opportunity to learn from and grow with both personally and professionally throughout his career ...
