Description
The home of Gibson electric guitars today is "Gibson USA," built in 1974 in Nashville specifically for the production of Gibson's Les Paul guitars. Although the entire guitar industry went through a slump in the late '70s, the spirit of innovation remained strong at Gibson. In response to a growing demand for vintage stylings, Gibson tapped its rich history and reissued the dot-neck version of the ES-335 in 1981 and the flametop sunburst Les Paul in 1982. At the same time, two legendary guitarists joined Gibson- B.B. King in 1980 with the Lucille model and Chet Atkins in 1982 with his new concept of a solidbody acoustic guitar.

Gibson world headquarters moved to Nashville in 1984 with the closing of the Kalamazoo plant. The financially troubled company was rescued in January 1986 by Henry Juszkiewicz and David Berryman, and the new owners quickly restored Gibson's reputation for quality as well as its profitability ...

Robin Guitars:
I was over at a friend's house in what must have been the summer of 1964. Someone said "Come see what's on the T.V.!" What I saw not only changed my life from that moment on, but literally millions of other kids and teenagers in America and around the world. The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show actually made me notice the electric guitar for the first time. Afterwards, I remember very clearly drawing pictures of electric guitars on my notebook in the sixth grade before I really knew what they were supposed to look like!

It wasn't too terribly long before guitars started showing up in the neighborhood and being in a band was the ultimate thing to do. Looking back we played some pretty cool instruments in those days... ones that are now sought after by collectors the world over.

Around 1971, I visited a used and "vintage" guitar shop in Houston and it was all over. This place was a funky lowdown hole in the wall full of what most people at the time would have considered junk. I think at that moment I was "lost" to the guitar as a "piece of art," as much or maybe even more so than actually playing it. Within a month, buying used and vintage guitars became a real obsession and I could hardly think of anything except playing guitars and hunting for them.

Before the year was out I had teamed up with a friend and we formed what would later become Houston's oldest and longest running "guitar shop" to date. During the following ten years we came to be known as the source for repairs, refinishing, and classic instruments in the Texas Gulf Coast area. We bought, sold, traded and repaired thousands of guitars from all manufacturers, acoustic and electric, American and foreign.

A departure from guitar shop life and a commitment to guitar building was a radical change from those formative years. That "obsession" of buying, selling, repairing, restoring, and customizing countless classic vintage and modern guitars soon became the foundation of Robin quality and design. After many hard years of cutting wood and dreaming "the dream," we continue to push forward with new designs and strive for even higher levels of craftmanship and quality ...

Alexander Shamray's Musical Workshop opened in 1998.

The company specializes in building custom hand-made electric guitars, as well as the repair, restoration and modernization of musical instruments. The workshop is now the largest and best known manufacturer of electric guitars in Russia. The majority of orders are taken directly in workshop, although guitars are also available from dealers in different regions of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belorussia, Moldova, & Yugoslavia. Furthermore, our guitars have already been exported directly to customers in Sweden, Germany, Canada, USA (NJ, TX, WA, MD,VA, CA, FL, OK), Austria, Norway, Holland, France, Israel, Switzerland, and Hong Kong.

How does a Shamray Custom Shop instrument differ from regular assembly-line produced musical instruments?

First and foremost: you receive what is necessary for you - the materials, the sizes, the design, the colors and sound of the guitar.

Second: Our connections with manufacturers and suppliers allow us to offer you a wide choice of hardware (Schaller, Gotoh, Sperzel, Partsland) as well as - right here on the premises - custom manufacturing of any details to order. Hundreds of different pickups are available (EMG, DiMarzio, Seymour Duncan, Kinman) - also, entirely custom-built pickups can be made-to-order!

The Third advantage - a five year guarantee on our products. Special quality control of materials makes it possible for us to offer a lifetime guarantee for the reliability of the neck and integrity of the woodwork. Besides the after-sales service, the workshop offers upgrade privileges. When ordering a guitar, it is possible to provide in advance for forthcoming changes (installation of Floyd Rose, additional pickups, and so forth). So, it is possible to order a guitar with a minimum quantity of completing, and (as finances permit), to upgrade it at a minimum of expense.

In the workshop, there are stocks of all basic musical tonewoods: hard maple, sycamore, figured maples, mahogany of different types, ash, walnut, cherry, rosewood, ebonies, poplar, linden and alder. The technology of preparation and endurance of material completely satisfies very rigid requirements. For custom shop guitars, the selection of materials typically occurs in the presence of the customer ...

Alesa Lajana:
Equiped with both an accoustic guitar and accoustic lap-steel slide guitar, Alesa conjures a magical language that draws on the complex ornamentation of traditional Scottish and Irish bagpipe and fiddle tunes, blues, and the music of Eastern Europe.
Alesa grew up in Southern Queensland, Australia, where she attended the Brisbane Independant
School. From an early age, she showed promise in Visual Art, Dance and Music. As a youngster, she studied the Middle Eastern dance discipline of Raks Sharki performing with a dance troupe at multicultural events. At 16 she took up guitar, inspired by some of the outstanding performers she had witnessed at World and Folk Music Festivals in Australia ...

Schafer Classical Guitars are built for a sonorous and beautiful quality of tone with adequate volume for a concert instrument. These instruments are built to maximize energy and increase efficiency. This is achieved by making certain areas heavy and strong while other areas are light and flexible. The ideal combination is achieved by weighing and measuring every component to a specific weight and dimension. All soundboard braces are weighed, measured and checked for strength prior to installation. Following completion, each soundboard is checked for strength and flexibility to insure responsiveness.

Schafer Guitars are built by one individual from start to finish. This individual approach allows greater control to maintain the consistency of quality the customer comes to expect from a hand crafted instrument.
