Lone Star Guitars are made in the legendary mountain village of Paracho, high in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Mexico. Paracho artisans have been perfecting their craft for over 200 years. Many of the Luthiers that work at Lone Star are fourth and fifth generation musical instrument makers. Abstract guitars are built entirely by hand. They are constructed and painted by the original BC Rich and Jackson Custom Shop builders. This same group of talented craftsmen have been building Abstract guitars for over twelve years. The only difference now is that they are building Abstract guitars full time instead of part time.
If you spend any time looking at the Abstract line, you will notice the similarity in construction techniques to both Jackson and BC Rich. Understand that we use these guitar companies as comparisons because of the consistent high quality of their product.
We are committed to building the very best guitars that we can. We will endeavor to build a better product than both of these companies.
Get the Abstract Advantage
* The neck heel is smoother and sleeker than a stock Jackson its characteristic lump at the neck joint. Not that there is any real problem with the lump. It's just that aesthetically, the Abstract neck joint is smoother (more like the Gary Jacobs design).
* The back cavity covers are all flush with the wood instead of being mounted on the outside of the guitar. A small improvement, but it's hard to find ways to build a better BC Rich.
* Tone Pros Bridges instead of quadmatics. Now that's a real improvement.
* Better and thicker drop tops.
* Floyd Rose original and low pro models only. No "licensed by" versions.
* Much lower prices on custom features.
* Many more inlay designs available.

James A. Olson ("Jim") has been handcrafting acoustic flattop guitars since 1977. His instruments began getting national attention in the mid 1980s, after Phil Keaggy commissioned the first cedar-topped Olson SJ guitar and began playing Olson guitars almost exclusively on his acoustic albums and in concert. In 1989, James Taylor purchased three of Jim's guitars; through Taylor's visibility, Olson guitars became known and prized by a wide variety of players around the world. Today an impressive number of well-known players in styles spanning fingerstyle to bluegrass to country to pop are proud Olson owners, including Leo Kottke, Kathy Mattea, James Taylor, Graham Nash, Sting, and many others. But most of the 60 or so guitars Jim is able to build each year go to players of less renown (like those of us who contributed to this site, and perhaps like you), although of perhaps equally discriminating taste!
