Julie Andrews: Picture gallery, articles, chat room and loads of links.
Born Julia Elizabeth Wells, on Oct. 1, 1935, at Walton-On-Thames in Surrey, England. Ever since she was eight, she sang in music halls and performed on stage. When she was 13, she sang for the Queen at the London Hippodrome. When she was 19, she stared in "The Boy Friend". The New York version of "The Boy Friend" ran for 485 performances. Andrews moved on to better things starring in "My Fair Lady", becoming the youngest actress ever to play the part of Eliza Doolittle professionally. Andrews also played Queen Guinevere in the musical "Camelot" in 1960. She made her screen debut in "Mary Poppins" in 1964. She won both an Academy Award and Golden Globe for this performance. In "The Sound Of Music", Andrews played the governess of 7 children who in the end falls in love with the childrens father, Captain Von Trapp. Another musical film which featured Andrews was "Thouroghly Modern Millie" made in 1967. Here she portrayed a young woman during the 1920's.
In 1959, she married set and costume designer, Tony Walton, which ended in a divorce in 1968. From that marriage she had one child, Emma Kate, the only of her children who aren't adopted. On Nov. 12, 1969, Andrews remarried director/producer Blake Edwards who already had two children, Amy Leigh and Joanna Lynn, both adopted. Between 1970 and 1986, Andrews appeared in many films including "Victor/Victoria", which was the first movie that landed her a starring role in the same play. The play started in 1995 and ended in 1997. It was the most attended play in Ney York City its whole run. Throughout the play, Andrews had many sicknesses, mainly in her throat. She just dealt with it by drinking tea and taking medicine. When the show was finished, she had surgery and was guarenteed her throat would heal, in fact it was supposed to be better.
After the surgery her throat didn't recover. Since then she has been seeing many coaches about her throat and none of them have helped it recover. Even when she talks, her voice sounds hoarse. 3 months ago it was rumored that Andrews' voice had recovered, but after her interview with Barbara Walters, Andrews assured us that her voice had not yet recovered, and to keep hoping it gets better. It is only a few months short of a two years now and suing is a consideration ...

Julie Andrews at Thespian Net:
Academy Award Winner Julie Andrews is one of the world's most loved stars of stage and screen. Born in Walton-On-Thames, a riverside town a few miles out of London, her mother and stepfather were music hall performers. By the age of age 8 she had a fully formed adult throat and a four-octave voice, so it was no surprise when she followed her parents footsteps, appearing first on the London stage at twelve years of age. She continued to perform in Variety throughout her childhood and teens, and was always immensely popular.
In 1954 she crossed the Atlantic to star in the Broadway production of The Boyfriend. In 1963, during Camelot's Broadway run, Walt Disney approached her to star in her first feature film Mary Poppins, a role for which she won universal acclaim and an Oscar. Following Mary Poppins Andrews went on to star in the films The Americanization of Emily and The Sound Of Music, which brought her a second Academy Award nomination and became the highest grossing film of all time.
It was during the 1960's that she filmed the first of her many television specials and it was ABC's The Julie Andrews' Hour which won eight Emmy Awards.
The next time she took to the big screen was in conjunction with her husband Blake Edwards to film The Tamarind Seed. In 1981 she received her third Academy Award nomination for her role in Victor/Victoria ...
