jimmy vaughan
jimmy vaughan
Description
Jimmie Vaughan is far more than just one of the greatest and most respected guitarists in the world of popular music. As Guitar Player Magazine notes, "He is a virtual deity--a living legend." After all, Vaughan provides a vital link between contemporary music and its proud heritage, as well as being a longtime avatar of retro cool.

Since releasing his first solo album in 1994, he has set the standard for quality modern roots music. Throughout his career, Vaughan has earned the esteem of his legendary guitar-playing heroes and superstar peers along with successive generations of young players. His musical ethos and personal style have had an impact on contemporary culture, from spearheading the current blues revival with The Fabulous Thunderbirds to his longtime, innate fashion sense of slicked-back hair and sharp vintage threads (now seen throughout the pages of contemporary fashion journals) to becoming a premier designer of classic custom cars. But for Jimmie Vaughan, none of it is part of a crusade or a career plan. It's just his natural way of living his life and pursuing the interests that have captivated Vaughan since his youth.

Now, with his third solo release and Artemis Records debut, Do You Get The Blues?, Vaughan has fashioned his most compelling and appealing musical statement yet, creating a rich and variegated masterpiece of 21st Century rhythm and blues. From the first notes of the opening instrumental, "Dirty Girl," it's clear that Vaughan has created a contemporary classic. Driven by Vaughan's lyrical guitar work, the skin-tight drumming of George Rains and the verdant Hammond B-3 work of the song's writer, Bill Willis (whose long career includes work on the seminal R&B and blues sides issued by King Records as well as stints with Freddie King and Lavern Baker), the song speaks volumes without a single word, and sets a tone of distinctive and emotion-laden musical articulation that continues throughout the disc ...

Vivian Campbell at Xtreme Musician.

After being expelled from School at the age of 16 for being overly rebellious, Vivian Campbell joined a band called Sweet Savage. He played with them until 1982, when he successfully auditioned for Dio. After expressing differences with some of the other members of Dio, Campbell moved on to form Trinity. This band never really got off the ground, but resulted in his touring with Whitesnake in latter 1987. This, unfortunately, never resulted in any recorded material. Vivian joined the Riverdogs in the late 80's, and enjoyed some success with their self-titled album. In the early 90's, he moved on to Shadow King. In 1992, after the unfortunate demise of Steve Clark, Campbell joined Def Leppard.

Jazz guitarist Gene Shimosato's website features biography, sound bites, itinerary, cds, photo gallery, etc ...
Award winning guitarist, Gene Ess, draws upon a diverse background to form his unique style. Studying classical piano, Ess's early years were filled with sounds of Beethoven and Chopin. Growing up on a US Air Force Base, Ess was simultaneously receiving a mix of influences: he was exposed to the indigenous music of Okinawa and - to the pop and jazz music coming out of the clubs for the American soldiers. All this amounted for an early obsession with music.

Considered a child prodigy by fellow musicians and instructors, Ess performed in clubs and festivals all around Okinawa at the early age of 14. After graduating high school, not satisfied, Ess left for George Mason University. There, Ess pursued classical music studies with Larry Snitzler, a prominent concert guitarist who was once Andres Segovia's disciple and orchestral composition under Dr. Glenn Smith.

Downbeat magazine presented Ess's performance of Lennox Berkeley's 'Theme and Variations' with the 'Outstanding Performance Award' in 1983. Consequently, Ess received a scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he continued his musical quest and was heavily influenced by the music of John Coltrane. During those years, Ess started leading his own groups, which included among others, pianist Danilo Perez. After studies with Jerry Bergonzi and Charlie Banacos, Ess graduated from Berklee with honors in 1989 and moved to New York in 1991 ...

Jerry Cantrell - The Official Web Site for exclusive news, photos, and information.
As one of the most influential guitarists of his generation, Jerry Cantrell has made a permanent mark on today’s rock music. His heavy- yet organic-style, paired with soulful songwriting, helped shape the success of the legendary ‘90’s band, Alice in Chains. Echoes of Cantrell’s haunting and melodic music still permeate the modern rock genre, and many new bands unapologetically site Cantrell as a vital influence. Cantrell penned many of Alice in Chains’ innovative songs including “Rooster,” “Would?” and “No Excuses,” which have become rock anthems of this generation.

After five platinum and multi-platinum albums with Alice in Chains, Cantrell honed his singer/songwriter talents, and in 1998 he embarked on a solo career. Boggy Depot (Columbia), his first solo release, was an introspective musical exploration dipping into elements of both rock and country. Cantrell’s sophomore release, 2002’s double CD, Degradation Trip, (Roadrunner), proved to be an intricate 25-song rock and roll masterpiece: raw, powerful and bleeding with emotion.

Famous for his musical integrity, Cantrell is one of the most well respected rock musicians of today. His uncompromising creativity has made him a living legend of rock and roll with a thriving international fan base. Currently working on a new album, he continues to perfect his art. Now Cantrell is gearing up to hit the road again to showcase some of his new songs as well as some old favorites. Cantrell is also collaborating with Billy Duffy of The Cult on a side project, “Cardboard Vampyres.”
