The solo debut from singer/songwriter and former Indigo Swing frontman
Johnny Boyd is available online and in stores now!

Boyd is Back! After more than a year in the shadows, charismatic singer/songwriter and former Indigo Swing frontman Johnny Boyd returns with Last Word In, a new solo release on Cliffdive Records.

The inimitable Boyd, whose boyish visage recalls classic Hollywood, founded the critically acclaimed San Francisco band Indigo Swing in 1993, wrote the majority of the band’s original material, and inspired a new generation of music lovers in the recent retro swing movement.

Born in San Francisco and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, Boyd began singing at age 10 with the Phoenix Boys Choir, and continued to perform with various high school and college music projects before returning to San Francisco to form Indigo Swing. After years of relentless touring throughout the U.S. and Europe, Boyd left his band last year to rest and pursue a solo music career. With over 100,000 Indigo Swing albums sold, 1,100 live performances to his credit, and thousands of devoted fans worldwide, Boyd's new release marks his sentimental return to popular music ...

This singer/song-writer and former front man for Indigo Swing has just released his first solo album. Real Audio samples, a biography, album reviews, and a newsletter subscription form are provided.

The Blues Saracens:
Q: WHAT DO YOU PLAY? A: We play JAZZ. What kind? ALL sorts. We're pretty versatile. We can (and do) play everything from Traditional to Bop. Though we have an array of amazing soloists, we favor ensemble playing. There's something about HARMONY that seems to have been lost on jazz over the years...

Q: DO YOU DO ORIGINALS? A: Most assuredly! Fully half our book is original! Again, the originals run the gamut between swing and bop (and beyond).

Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND? A: Good question. I suppose our "base sound" is influenced by both the 52nd St. Swing of the late 30's and the early bop of the late 40's. Lionel Hampton's small groups are a big influence on our sound. So too are the "ensemble bop" recordings of Fats Navarro, Tad Dameron, and Dizzy Gillespie.

Q: WHAT'S YOUR "MISSION STATEMENT"? A: We endeavor to give jazz the popular appeal it has lost over the years. How? For one thing, by not taking ourselves too seriously. We're not trying to invent a new alternative to the wheel. NONE of the great jazz innovators did, either. We, like they, LOVE playing. The jazz press has "defined" jazz to the point where the majority of the population simply couldn't care less. Jazz has become far too sophisticated for its own good. That "raw edge" is what we're attempting to achieve. We play jazz AS IF it were rock and roll...In short, we have fun playing what we play. How does that translate to us playing your event? Simple. Unless you're an incorrigable stodgy square, you'll have fun too!

At the same time, we endeavor to maintain the highest musical standards. Every member of the band has a different background. Some have come up through the "jazz pipeline", others haven't. They all know their business. In the end, we hope to provide an alternative to today's abysmal pop-culture as well as an alternative to today's stiff and predictable jazz ...

The premiere jazz and swing band in the bay area, the Blue Room Boys are available for hire for parties and events.

The Blue Room Boys are one of San Francisco's most exciting bands, a favorite of dancers and jazz fans alike. Featuring the sultry vocals of Emily Hayes and the virtuoso horn playing of Ralph Carney and Danny Armstrong, the Boys are backed up by a swingin' rhythm section: bandleader Michael McIntosh on piano, Brian Kane on guitar, Bill Langlois on bass, and Kevin Mummey on drums.

Playing the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and other greats from the swing era, The Blue Room Boys burn the house down while the dancers cut a rug.

Ralph Carney plays saxophones, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, woogie stick, and various and sundry items of percussion. Ralph has an extensive resume of credits to his name, including TV music for "The Little Rascals Show"; movie music for "Night on Earth" (Jim Jarmusch), "Wild at Heart" (David Lynch) and "Dead Man Walking"; theater music for "Frank's Wild Years" (Steppenwolf Theater) and "Ubu Roi" (Lincoln Center).

Emily Hayes is an earthy jazz and blues singer. She made her singing debut at the age of nine, decked out in daring red velvet on the spotlit stage of an elementary school. Part of a musical family, she often performed with her brother and sisters on a makeshift stage in the back of her suburban East Coast home.

Brian Kane is currently a graduate student in music composition at UC Berkeley and has been in demand as one of the busiest guitarists in San Francisco. He works regularly with the Frank Jackson Trio and the legendary Hal Stein, as well as leading his own quartet and trio.

Acoustic bassist Bill Langlois has lived and played jazz professionally in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1977, performing styles from traditional to avant-garde, he has performed with numerous internationally famous musicians as well as with some of the finest local Bay Area talent.

Michael McIntosh plays classical, jazz and rock piano in San Francisco. He has recorded with, among others, Jonathan Richman, Jolie Holland, and Tim Hockenberry.

Kevin Mummey learned to play drums from his father. Later teachers include Bob Moses, Swapan Choudhouri and Vince Delgado.

Monty Banks: Las Vegas casino entertainer, Seattle wedding musician, New York City piano jazz singer, swing dance music, cocktail, wedding reception band, Seattle wedding musicians, wedding reception music, swing dance wedding reception band.

Monty Banks, voted "Best Lounge Act" in Las Vegas, interprets the great jazz standards with a characteristic rhythm he calls: "Lounge-A-Billy Swing." Seattle Magazine calls it "rat-pack inspired," a mirthful mix of danceable big-band swing, melodic jazz standards, and hopped-up rockabilly boogie jump. Las Vegas Weekly says: "Banks is like a straight shot back to the Rat Pack days, a Vegas lounge singer who loves his audience, performing with class and style. " There's a toe-tapping lightness that infuses everything the High Rollers play, from understated backround music to the more dynamic showband, swing-dance, and rock-a-boogie styles.

Monty Banks, Vegas-style crooner, pianist, bandleader, arranger, and comic entertainer from Seattle, brings the excitement of "Sin City" to "The Emerald City" and "The Big Apple." With bands located in both Seattle and Las Vegas, Monty travels frequently between cities, bringing his high energy entertainment to the famed Las Vegas Strip, cosmopolitan jazz clubs of New York City, and "swelegent" gatherings throughout the Pacific Northwest.

The playlist ranges from songs made famous by Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, lounge icons Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, to jazz geniuses Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Henry Mancini. For cocktail or dinner music there's the pensive swing of Chet Baker, and for dancing there's the "swing rock boogie" of Nat King Cole and Louis Jordan.
