jump, jive and wail
jump, jive and wail
Description
Jump, Jive and Wail:
The influences are clear. In homage to the original swingers, this eight-piece band has taken a dose or two of the legendary Louis Prima, a shot (or two) of Louis Jordan, a splash of be-bop and big band, and mixed (shak'n, baby, of course), with their antics on stage, JUMP, JIVE, & wail has already hit with a bang at what the mainstream has dubbed the "retro-swing" scene. But equally clear is the presence of original music that only results from the strong musicianship evident in this group. It's plain to see the boys in the band have plans for this genre that has never really gone away. It's just been waiting for the right time to resurface and remind us how much fun music can be ...

J Street Jumpers:
They are one of the East Coast's most popular swing bands! The Jumpers create a sound that is a restoration, rather than a renovation, of the classic swing and jump-blues of the '30s, '40s, and '50s. Find out about the band's sound and their musical roots by taking a tour of J Street.

Combining the swing of Count Basie, the beat of Buddy Johnson, the New Orleans lilt of Fats Domino, and the passion of Dinah Washington, the J Street Jumpers are one of the East Coast's most popular Jump Blues bands. They've garnered the respect of the Washington music community as well, evidenced in 2003 by Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) Wammie Awards wins for the Sixth year in a row: Best Big Band - Swing Duo/Group, Best Big Band - Swing Recording and Best Jazz. Their CD release, Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby, was named to The Washington Post's list of favorite local CDs of 1998 ...

Many of the band members have more than three decades of experience playing jump-blues and swing-jazz. Their extensive repertoire keeps even the most demanding audience on the floor and begging for more. The infectious beat is enhanced by their showmanship and tremendous soloists.

Jazz & Swing guitar audio CD by Jazz guitarist Johnny Zorro. MP3 samples available on site.

Johnny Zorro may not have seen it all, but he's seen a lot of it. Johnny owns & operates one of the finest guitars around. It plays jazz, swing, and pop, with a range of style from quiet and sweet to strident and an occasional controlled frenzy. To watch him play in person is pure delight. He makes it look like great fun. Johnny, born David Porrazzo in Boston, Mass., left home and earned his way into the world of music at the age of 16.

He's backed Nat "King" Cole and Herb Alpert, toured with several groups including the Page Cavanaugh Trio, and had a hit record with Warner Brothers. His movie work includes "The Gene Krupa Story" and Elvis Presley's "Change of Habit." On the "Habit" set he taught the King a "lick" and also fixed Elvis's G-string. Johnny's played from Vegas to South America. He sings, too, with a light, whimsical touch. The sound this artist produces are very tasty...very tasty, indeed.
