Annie Denison:
Originally from Chicago, Annie moved to the Quad City area as a child, where she performed all through her childhood and young adult years in any and all areas of musical performance....from singing with her father, cornet player, Ben Denison's trad-jazz band at the age of 12, from punk bands to R&B, from musical theater to classical and Twentieth Century Music (including premiers of compositions of Sigmund Snopek and Jerome Kitzske). But she always returned to her first love...straight ahead jazz.
Annie moved to Milwaukee in the early 80's after a stint on the Mississippi riverboat. Her move to Milwaukee was an effort to reside in an area close to two major cities where she could find a "real jazz scene."
On the heels of her move, she was hired by a local big band, with whom she worked, on and off, for 13 years. She sang for two years at the Hyatt Regency, Milwaukee in the Atrium Lounge and says of that experience...."I learned the most singing there....3 nights a week will get you bored with your repertoire pretty fast, so you learn new tunes daily. It taught me how to keep the intensity in a song, night after night....It takes your complete concentration" ...
Site features cd, downloads, biographiess of Annie & the Jazz Orphans, reviews, newsletter, guestbook, itinerary, links, and photos.
Female jazz vocalist, blues and gospel singer, Dee Daniels sensual voice and golden timbre lends itself to ballads, she can also swing.
Dee Daniels offers the jazz aficionado an ultimate treat – jazz served up with full-bodied silky tones that soar to the height and captures the depth of her four-octave range.
She has a warm presence and performance ability in everything from fronting combos in intimate Jazz clubs, to fronting big bands or symphony orchestras in concert halls. When she accompanies herself on piano with exceptional ease and artistry, it is to the great enjoyment of her audiences.
Daniels' style was born in her stepfather's church choir in Oakland, California, honed through the R&B era and brought to full fruition during a five-year stay in Europe from 1982 to 1987. During those years, she had many wonderful opportunities to perform with such ‘Legends of Jazz’ as Toots Theilemans, Johnny Griffin, Ed Thigpen, and Monty Alexander to name but a few. Two other personal highlights while in Europe include having had the opportunity of singing the Blues with the late, divine Sarah Vaughan in The Netherlands, and singing Gospel with the late great Joe Williams in Germany ...
