1. steve pappas
Steve Pappas is an expressive and adroit axe wielder currently based in Boardman, Ohio (USA) who represents his playing style as acoustic/fingerstyle/world, as a music fan can now experience on his most recent recording, "Refuge". His workhorse guitars consist of a Takamine EC132 and an Asturias JM15. Pappas has been playing guitar since 1974, and putting it simply, divulges his career objective, "To continue to write, and record my own compositions/arrangements for fingerstyle guitar."
When asked to finally make public his favorite or most used effect for the guitar, Pappas unflinchingly stated, "Digital reverb," and continued by outlining his musicial goals, "I want to express my emotions and experiences through each piece." He maintains a desire to, at some point, study historical instruments such as the lute, and is at the moment listening to Stevan Pasero, David Qualey and Gene Bertoncini. His principal gratification? Vladislav Blaha studied at the Brno Conservatoire with Arnost Sadlik before going to the Liszt College of Music in Weimar, Germany, where he graduated as a student of Roland Zimmer. Masterclasses with Costas Cotsiolis, Abel Carlevaro and, with the aid of British Council Fellowship, study in England with Gordon Crosskey (Royal Northern College of Music) and John W.Duarte in London completed his formal learning. Blaha achieved international recognition as winner in four international guitar competitions in: Volos/Greece , Esztergom/Hungary, Kutna Hora/Czech Republic and Markneukirchen / Germany. He received medale bronze in Radio France International Competition in Paris.
Blaha has given concerts in most European countries /Royal Festival Hall and Conway Hall in London, Radio France in Paris, etc/ in addition to U.S.A. /N.Z., Chicago, L.A., Dallas,Portland, Miami,etc/, Asia /Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam/ and Latin Amerika /Cuba, Mexico, Peru/. His richness of expression, together with his brilliant virtuosity and stylish interpretation give cause for much critical acclaim throughout the musical world. Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, Lino graduated college with two degrees (History and Pre-Med.) from Miami University of Ohio. But Lino's calling has always been to compose and perform music, so after college he moved to Los Angeles to do what he loves most.
Lino began studying guitar at the age of nine with classical master, George Bachmann. During his high school years, he was naturally drawn to rock music, although it never diverted him from his interest in classical. “I was very lucky to have been instructed in classical music before I ventured into the rock realm,” Lino explains. "It made me a well-rounded musician and gave me a lot to draw from as a composer later on. I learned to appreciate all styles of music, instead of just focusing on one particular genre.” This is evident in Lino's incredibly unique and versatile layering of guitars in combination with other instruments and his bold blending of musical styles. And it's what makes his music so distinct.
“This style of music is very personal and exciting for me because it is the most honest music I have ever recorded. I don't try to accommodate the latest trends in a particular musical style or write music that would comfortably fit into a particular existing format,” Lino explains ...
