In May 1973 the first Leduc guitar was born: a small acoustic instrument with four strings that wore the number 001 ! Twenty - three years already! Champagne! Maturity and not banal itinerary!
When Christophe Leduc opens the workshop of Thionville in 1986, it puts a term to his industrial experience. The new production breaks resolutely with the ancient models, manufactured in series. Each part is now chiselled with love, carefully adapted to the playing and to the personality of each musician. After several years of " struggle for life ", it appeared necessary to him to breathe a bit, to think newly of a mountain of certainties. To take again the time to listen and to speak, to compare and to experiment again. Some years passed again to this new rhythm, and the small Leduc instrument grew up , and without din, they are now travelling all around the world! ...

Classical guitars by Fritz Mueller. Magical concert guitars by one of Canada's leading luthiers.
I make classical guitars exclusively, approximately eight instruments per year. Since working with Jeff Elliott in the late 70's, my building has been firmly rooted in the Hauser tradition. Over the years I have added many of my own innovations, but important construction details from Hauser's instruments, such as their tap tones and air resonances, and even his plantilla (or body outline), still form the foundation of my work, while the magical Hauser sound continues to be an inspiration ...
My work is firmly rooted in the Hauser instrument-building tradition. Over the years I have added many of my own refinements, including composite or double-top construction for the sounding board. These are true concert guitars, with an exciting, magical sound that is a joy to play.
Stefan Sobell Musical Instruments hand made instruments, guitars, mandolins, bouzoukis, citterns.
My workshop is the Old School in the rural Northumbrian village of Whitley Chapel. It's made up of two handwork shops and a machine area, with space to stack and season the different woods. It's cosy and compact without being cramped, and has large windows with pleasant views over green fields.
The second member of the team is David Wilson, who finishes all my instruments (as well as those of most good builders in the North of England). He has his own workshop in Haltwhistle, a small town nearby, and also builds (and plays) electric basses.
My interest in acoustic instruments began in the British folk clubs of the 1960s. In those days of unamplified venues we were all searching for instruments with good power and tone; at that time there weren't many around. I experimented with the instruments I had and soon found that with a little thought and experimentation I could make a reasonable instrument sound considerably worse; a hard way to learn, especially when the modifications were non-reversible ...

Huss & Dalton guitars feature two distinct construction styles. On all of our standard series models, we employ the use of a 25' radius built into the guitar top, which is achieved by milling an arch into the braces and preparing the sides with the same radius to accept the soundboard. A positive by-product of the radiused soundboard design, besides it’s load-bearing properties, is a boost in the mid-range. This helps our guitars to have a more balanced tonal quality than traditional designs. Our Traditional series features the same 25' radius prepared into the braces, but the sides are left flat for a more traditional build style. This build style tends to have a more traditional tonal character, emphasizing a bit more bass.
All Huss & Dalton guitars are braced with hand split Appalachian Red Spruce, which has a greater strength-to-weight ratio than other brace woods.
All bridge plates are made from Honduras Rosewood, selected for its superior tonal properties and resistance to string ball wear.
We use AAA grade top woods, which are checked individually for load bearing abilities, and are thickness sanded to achieve the best balance of strength and flexibility.
We use bone nuts on all of our instruments and fully compensated 1/8” bone saddles on all of our guitar models. We then compensate the scale of every string to make our intonation as close as possible to perfect.
Our necks are quarter-sawn Honduran Mahogany, Maple, Walnut, or Spanish Cedar, and all employ the use of a steel reinforced truss rod. Each neck is carved to a sleek comfortable feel, and we can custom shape and size your neck to fit your needs.
All fingerboards are Ebony, a beautiful, dense wood that is resistant to wear. We bind every fingerboard on every guitar model. Those needing an unbound look are bound in Ebony. Binding all fingerboards means no fret- ends are seen or felt. In addition, finish tends to chip away at the fret-ends on unbound boards.
Besides technical improvements to the design of our instruments, we have made aesthetic improvements as well. Most of the instruments in our line feature solid wood bindings and are tastefully appointed with shell inlays. All of our guitars feature the use of the finest quarter-sawn woods available.
All Huss & Dalton instruments are priced with a hard shell case.
