Lucas Guitars:
I was born in Lincoln, England in 1957 and began playing guitar at the age of fourteen. I later studied architecture, and left college with a degree and a sense of structure and form. A stint as a joiner reinforced my interest in working with wood, originally absorbed as a child in the environment of the family joinery business. Meanwhile constant activity as a musician deepened my understanding of the guitar from a player's perspective.
I began building guitars in 1990, originally building classical guitars. I added steel string acoustics soon after. I have experimented with and refined various design ideas over the years and have arrived at some unique and successful models.
During my time as a guitar maker I have illustrated a book on guitar making, 'Making Master Guitars' by Roy Courtnall (Robert Hale 1993). This has become something of a standard textbook in the field and was a real stepping stone in my own research and building methods. Subsequently I produced illustrations for 'The Art of Violin Making', by Chris Johnson and Roy Courtnall (Robert Hale 1999).
Classical Guitarmaker:
Hello and welcome to my web page. I would like to share with you the great passion that I have for the classical guitar. I have the good fortune to be able to dedicated my professional life (and a good part of my private life as well!) to its construction, its history and the wonderful music it produces. I therefore invite you to browse through these few pages, get acquainted with my hand-made guitars and to get a feel for my "vision" and method of construction. All of this is aimed at offering you unique high quality instruments to fulfill your demands.
I truly believe that every classical guitar is a unique instrument with its own personality. I get inspired by the works of great luthiers from Antonio de Torres to the modern masters while staying away from actually copying their instruments. I therefore follow the basic principles of guitarmaking but I design and build my guitars according to my own ideas with regards to the shape of the body (plantilla), the head and neck, the rosette, the strutting system and the various aesthetics aspects.

Check out the newly updated Archtop Jazz Guitar page. I'm planning
on doing the same thing to the Flat top page in the near future.
If you're interested in a Small Electric Archtop, check out the one on
my current project page. It has a fantastic sound even with my cheap
little amp. Pictures: Building an Archtop Guitar.

Anton van Daalen , Luthier:
Anton van Daalen attended music school in the seventies and after a four year training in decorative woodworking started building guitars in 1979.
He extended his knowledge by working in several small guitar workshops, with his work culminating in building a Van Zalingen bass for the artist Sting.
In addition to building guitars to order, Anton supervises guitar building courses in his own studio/workshop. For anyone with an interest in the subject this can provide an insight into the mystery of guitar building, as well as your own hand built instrument.
