Sinds 1998 ben ik aktief als professioneel bouwer van akoestische gitaren met een eigen karakter. Standaard lever ik op dit moment 3 modellen: een traditioneel klassiek model, een nylonsnarige gitaar met een 14 frets hals en een steelstring.
Alle modellen, ook de steelstring, hebben een traditionele 'Spaanse slof' als verbinding tussen hals en klankkast ...
Ik gebruik voor de bouw verschillende houtsoorten, die ik bij diverse leveranciers altijd zelf selecteer. India-palissander is standaard voor de klankkast van mijn concert-modellen, maar ik gebruik net zo graag minder exotische houtsoorten als noten of peren. De klank van een gitaar uit inheems hout is, in tegenstelling tot wat wel eens beweerd wordt, zeker niet minder, hooguit een tikje anders. Voor mijn bovenbladen gebruik ik zowel fijnspar als ceder, elk met zijn eigen specifieke klankeigenschappen.
Naast de bouw van akoestische gitaren verricht ik ook reparaties –van eenvoudig tot zeer ingrijpend- aan vrijwel alle soorten getokkelde snaarinstrumenten in mijn kleine, maar goed toegeruste atelier.

Well, you already know without me telling you, that Gordon-Smith are individually hand crafted guitars. We used to say "Hand made", but apparently we're not allowed to say that now because we didn't actually chop the tree down ourselves, or something like that. Anyway, the good news is that, hand crafting a guitar means we start each guitar from the basic block of wood. That means that many of the options are no cost options. We don't add sneaky little surcharges just for the hell of it. If it doesn't cost us it doesn't cost you. Single or double cutaway, Rosewood fingerboard or our unique one piece Maple neck and left handed models (which normally attracts a sizeable surcharge). All these options are available at no extra cost.
Also if you want to change the specification slightly or even supply some of your own parts. Well OK, just run it past us. If we can't do it or think it's a bad idea or just a plain waste of your hard earned, we'll tell you ...
