Oscar Trezzini, Luthier:
I have been making classical guitars since 1982. My current workshop is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
I personally design and craft all stages of construction, including the seasoning and the choice of the wood, the marquetry of each rosette, and the application of the French polish. A guitar requires four months of construction time ; and I make ten guitars in a year.
By means of this website I will show you my present work, the ancient productions, and some of the techniques I use when constructing the guitars. You will also be able to find testimonials that my clients have written about their experiences with their guitars, and to hear a sample of my guitars played by some of my clients.
As the classical guitar is an instrument in constant development, aside from my annual production, I carry out research on new structures and new materials. This adds understanding to the complex mechanisms of guitar production.
I became, and remain today, surrounded by clients and friends who, besides accompanying me with their music, contribute to my chosen path by trying my guitars and giving their professional viewpoints. The French guitar maker Dominique Field, with his keen perception and rich experience, coaches me as I strive to create the best possible guitars.
Hill Guitar started in my father’s Vermilion, Ohio garage back in 1989. It was kind of a strange time in my life. Friends were graduating from college around this time. After attending Electronics Technical School (ETI) for a short time (where I was not really a model student), I had dropped out and went into retail sales. The money wasn't bad and I could see a lot of career opportunities. Unfortunately I just couldn't envision myself doing this for the long term. I asked my self, "What do I really want to do with my life?" The answer I kept coming up with was that I wanted to build guitars.
Starting as far back as middle school in Bay Village, Ohio we were fortunate enough to have a Wood Shop, Art and Music Programs and even an Architecture class. I excelled at all of these - I loved it. I always felt like I was on a different path than the "normal," especially as the years went on. I never had made the connection that the classes that I had taken that I really enjoyed could have somehow turned into a career. It seemed like such a pipe dream.
One day I just decided that I should at least try it - if I fail then I fail but if I succeed, great! Not the most responsible choice and there were probably a hundred better ways to go about it, but nevertheless Hill Guitars Began ...
Mayones Guitars and Basses:
All this started in 1982 in a little house-workshop as a family business manufacturing hand-made instruments for individual orders. The name Mayones itself comes from a company founder nickname. The production process of a single guitar took the average of 2-3 months then, in the early eighties. But thanks to our passion and commitment, or maybe for the simple fact that we were like pioneers on the Polish market, the orders were soon coming in dramatically faster than they could be filled. And recalling these memories, Poland of the communism era, we remember people queuing in front of our door the night before they could finally get their guitar... But this was the way Mayones became guitars & basses icon, and till today – the finest Polish bands have been using our gear.
And just after Poland's transition into a free-market economy, the timing was right to make a good use of new possibilities. We could finally invest in high precision machines and modern facilities. But the core is still people - because here at Mayones every single guitar or bass is hand-built by our team of 20 craftsmen and engineers. So when you play our instrument, you can feel their talent, hardwork and years of experience. That’s why every instrument is distinctive and a class for its own ...
