Harbeth design and manufacture high quality loudspeakers for home hi-fi, broadcast, post-production, dubbing and radio studio use.
Welcome to the Harbeth web site. Since 1977 we've been designing and manufacturing monitor-grade loudspeakers that accurately, believably and naturally reproduce recorded music and voice. These hand made, perfectly crafted speakers are not only an environmental success story in a throw-away world, but the best equipment investment that you will ever make.

We've built our company on a philosophy that puts innovative engineering at heart of the product hence 'the Harbeth sound' is the antithesis of the global trend of 'engineering cost down, cosmetic and marketing spend up'. Since we work flat out to keep up with demand, clearly neither we, nor our customers are the sort of people who are distracted by fashion trends ...

The Audigo LFM811 Project is a joint effort involving the design, manufacturing, testing and audio engineering skills of the following parties: PAUL F BERGETZ of Alienconcepts, Des Plaines Illinois, BRUCE E BRECKENFELD , Sound Advice, Lake Geneva Wisconsin, and DAVID R PLAHM from Design Express, Richmond Illinois.

The Audigo Concept. In August of 1991 while researching the Silicon Graphics Indigo reseller marketing guide Paul Bergetz a Silicon Graphics CadCam Systems VAR, was drawn to the pages listing the impressive array of digital audio capabilities that the Indigo was shipped with. With eleven years in the professional audio recording systems market, Paul was looking for a path to channel the talents he had acquired . "Why not build a set of Near Field Monitors that complemented the Indigo's styling and audio capabilities, was Paul's thought?

What are Near Field Monitors? Music production has changed drastically since the advent of the CD and digital recording. Higher levels of acoustic detail are now attainable. Because of this, the mixdown focus has switched from using the main wall mount monitor systems to a Near Field environment. The engineer sits in the sound field at the center of the sound source (the apex of an equilateral triangle) 1 to 1.5 meters from the sound source eliminating many boundary reflections caused by the room acoustics . Near field monitors must be ultra accurate, powerful, clean and blow up proof. The Audigo is capable of running at 110db at 1 meter all day long while remaining transparent without fatiguing the listener.

To reinforce the concept, the entire project from design to manufacturing would be implemented using the state of the art software he sold on the Indigo. The goal was first to create a world class product with the limited resources that many small American manufacturers have , by drawing upon the expertise of a network of colleagues. And second, use the cost effective tools that were sold to demonstrate to their customers that Concurrent Engineering can be implemented even in the smallest manufacturing and design groups.

Many microphone manufacturers on today's market bring microphones in from Asia with their brand name on it. It's a very common thing, and they are all pretty good. Some buy all their parts from Asia and assemble them from down under somewhere. Other's go so far as to deceive you by making you think they actually make their own mics right here in the USA or other Country of origin. We won't mention names, but during our travels to many different manufacturers in Asia, we saw plenty of brands come off the assembly lines. Now not all brands do this, but many do. You need to know this. Not that the product is bad, but no one wants to be tricked!

Studio Projects partner company, 797 Audio, has a long history (more than 40 years) in the production of professional microphones. The photos to the left and below are from their early 1950's models when their first vacuum tube microphones hit the market The company has a strong contingent of engineers engaged in electro-acoustic products and structural design. With a complete set of B&K electro-acoustic measuring instruments, a first class anechoic chamber, and a high level testing facility, Studio Projects microphones are manufactured at the highest standards available.

You wont find real cool new “buzz” words on this site, or stories of how long it took to create our mics from the latest and greatest materials known to both humans and little green men from outer space. We won't go into how passionate we are for our microphones by showing you our esteemed leader holding his microphone with a look of love in his eyes, as we think that is a bit kinky, and quite frankly, what has that got to do with microphones! After all, we are talking microphones here, and with so many on the market, why should you buy ours, especially since we are a new company? Well, that is a good question so let's address it.

We think it's quite simple. Our mics are every bit as good or better at a fraction of the cost you would pay for a world class German microphone. No, we are not a German mic, but we sure do sound like those $3,000.00 models. We use an outstanding capsule based on a 1950's German design, but we have made it sonically better due to advanced manufacturing techniques. We know as much as about mics as any microphone company out there with the exception of what we charge for them. After all, PMI Audio Group knows good sound and by bringing Studio Projects in directly without the added middleman stepping all over the product, we can make them very affordable.

If you're not convinced just yet, you will be soon enough. We have plenty of time to wait it out. So keep the Studio Projects name in the back of your mind as you have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. You see, we may be priced like the other low cost brands, but the quality and sound you get will compare with the expensive German models.

Soon you will read the upcoming ads and reviews. You will read what the professional studios have to say about them as well as the reviewers (CLICK HERE FOR NEW STUDIO PROJECTS REVIEW OF THE C1). Then you will go out and want to buy one, and with the money you save perhaps you can buy a used car, or take a trip to Hawaii, maybe a used motorcycle, or how about that room addition you have always wanted... perhaps dinner for 20 at Spago’s, a big screen TV.............. Then we can say, we told you so!

FAR audio, fundamental acoustic research.
Active monitors, acoustics.
"Back in 1994, I founded FAR (Fundamental Acoustic Research) on an idealistic belief, or so it seemed at the time. I firmly believed that the best speaker was only as good as the environment it was played in. Today, I still hold that same belief.
Therefore, my team and I have always endeavoured to give the listener that magical feeling, by developing a perfect combination between speaker and acoustics. As an addict of that feeling myself, I know how important it is to catch the listeners perception in a few milliseconds or lose it for good.
As time went by, I also noticed that, although people listen differently all over the world, the one unifying factor was the hunger for the newest technology. With this in mind, we have always priced ourselves on keeping ahead in every field of development, successfully incorporating new technologies from active speakers through to digital.
This being said, you will easily understand the care we put in research, in producing and installing our speakers and our studios. Nothing less than perfection will do, I am adamant about it. We want more than our client's satisfaction, we want them to experience pleasure in a very special way.
This is my invitation to listen..."
