For almost 40 years Samick has manufactured product for the leading brand names in the guitar business. In the process, we learned a great deal about not only what goes into a great guitar, but how to produce it at an affordable price. We also realized that the ability to produce quality product at an affordable price was only half the equation.There needed to be an all out effort to develop a powerful new identity for the product and our company.
We needed an entirely new line. For this enormous task, we called on Greg Bennett, an industry marketing and design veteran of almost 30 years. Kinscherff Guitars: My journey into the life of a guitarmaker was the result of a natural progression. I started playing guitar in 1967. Being the curious person I am it wasn't long before I was experimenting with pawnshop wrecks. I actually made my first guitars in 1978, an electric and a dreadnought. I found gainful employment at the then-fledgling Taylor Guitars and worked there for a couple of years.
In the early eighties I moved back to my native Texas, repairing and building instruments in Dallas. Wanderlust struck in 1986 and I decided to go on a walkabout. After about a year and a half of adventures that included travel in Europe , N. Africa, India and Nepal, I returned to the US and again found work at Taylor.
By 1990 I was ready to move back to Texas, this time the capital, Austin. It was there that I made the first acoustic guitars under the Kinscherff name, and designed the models I now offer ...

Stephen Holst Stringed Instruments: archtops, mandolins.
Like many luthiers, I spent quite a bit of time involved with repair and restoration work early in my career. These experiences were invaluable in helping me understand the complex variables involved with instrument construction and have influenced my work deeply. Wonderful older Gibsons, Epiphones, and D'Angelicos were available for close scrutiny and evaluation through this process. In the early nineties, as orders for my instruments increased, I decided to limit the repair work I did to Holst instruments and other interesting projects. Currently I make between 8 and 10 guitars and mandolins per year in my shop in Oregon's beautiful Willamette Valley.
By working full time by myself I am able to meticulously construct each instrument on an individual basis. This approach allows me to focus on extremely specific variables, controlling them to complement the finished piece and the customer's need for tonality and responsiveness. The result is a truly custom instrument.
Each guitar and mandolin I make reflects the specific needs and wishes of its owner. This manifests itself in the form of custom neck widths and shapes, special finish colors, choice of scale lengths and fingerboard radius, unique and personal inlay designs, and above all, the appropriate response, tone, and feel that is desired. I am also always open to discussing unusual projects such as custom body shapes, custom visual themes, and multi-string instruments ...

I have been making classical guitars since 1982. My current workshop is located in Geneva, Switzerland.
I personally design and craft all stages of construction, including the seasoning and the choice of the wood, the marquetry of each rosette, and the application of the French polish. A guitar requires four months of construction time ; and I make ten guitars in a year.
By means of this website I will show you my present work, the ancient productions, and some of the techniques I use when constructing the guitars. You will also be able to find testimonials that my clients have written about their experiences with their guitars, and to hear a sample of my guitars played by some of my clients.
As the classical guitar is an instrument in constant development, aside from my annual production, I carry out research on new structures and new materials. This adds understanding to the complex mechanisms of guitar production.
I became, and remain today, surrounded by clients and friends who, besides accompanying me with their music, contribute to my chosen path by trying my guitars and giving their professional viewpoints. The French guitar maker Dominique Field, with his keen perception and rich experience, coaches me as I strive to create the best possible guitars.

Construyo cada guitarra en todas sus etapas, desde el estacionamiento y la selección de las maderas hasta el lustre a muñeca, pasando por el diseño y el armado de cada roseta en taracea. Cada guitarra me lleva alrededor de cuatro meses de construcción, y mi producción anual es aproximadamente de diez guitarras.
