Site of Silence: A sound engineer about silence. Famous pop songs with silent breaks. Also in Dutch (Stilte Site).
De Site of Silence came on-line in februar 1999 and has been developed ever since. Everything is typed in Notepad, without the help of any HTML-producing program.
The Site of Silence is a collection of silence. Interesting facts and musical breaks. Silent locations and radio jingles. Silence in the full sense of the word...
The basic idea came from Paul de Klein (NOB Audio). It was a collection of strange silences, as still can be seen in the section "Visible Silence". This evolved to a collection of silent customary banalities.
Online Glossary:
Music, like any subject, has its own terminology. At first the many terms that musicians use to describe music can seem daunting. But there is nothing mysterious about these terms; they merely use words to describe something we can all hear with a little bit of practice. This section will introduce you to the terms used most often to talk about music. All the terms are clearly defined and linked to other related terms. In many cases you will be able to listen to an example chosen to illustrate the term.
Homerecording: hoe beginnen?
Guitar Nine Glossary of Terms:
Understanding many of the hundreds of terms used in a recording studio by producers, engineers, composers, and musicians can be an overwhelming task. We hope to help eliminate the confusion by compiling an on-line glossary that will attempt to define commonly used buzzwords and jargon, both subjective ("I need a warm, weighty, yet puffy bass sound here...") and straight-forward ("Did you join ASCAP yet..."). Using the glossary will not make you an expert overnight, but it will help keep you in the know and keep you abreast of all the specialized terminology that seems to grow incessantly.
Whenever possible, articles appearing in Guitar Nine Records' columns have been hyper linked to the corresponding definitions in the glossary. In addition, all pages in the Guitar Nine Records site have a direct link to the glossary main page. You can use the glossary as a reference source simply to look up a term or you can browse the definitions in an attempt to become familiar with a wide variety of new terms. Whichever method you choose, we hope you find this glossary to be a valuable tool in learning the talk of the musical and studio trades.
