Ron Anthony, guitar player:

I was born in Pittsburgh Pa. on December 16 1933. I was lucky enough to grow up in an era when the popular composers of the day were the Gershwins (George and Ira), Cole Porter. Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen and Rodgers and Hart to name a few.

At around 12 years of age, I started doing singing impressions of Billy Eckstine, Nat Cole, Frankie Lane and Herb Jeffries. George Shearing's music, Jackie Cain and Roy Kral (with Charley Ventura) and the Woody Herman band were big influences.

I studied clarinet for a short while. After picking up a guitar in a store one day, my whole life changed.

My first guitar teacher was Jerry Condorato (from Naples Italy). He was a great teacher and a wonderful friend. He taught what was called 'classical plectrum guitar'. (Wonderful for right hand technique.) His influences were Oscar Moore, Django Reinhardt and Andre Segovia. He was also the first teacher of Ron Affif, my nephew, (a wonderfully gifted guitarist based in New York.)

At 18 I started doing little jobs around Pittsburgh and I used to go on Jerry's jobs and sit in for tip money.

In 1955 I became a member of the '7th Army Jazz Band' in Stuttgart, Germany. Upon returning to my home town, I entered Duquesne University (where I now do guitar workshops) majoring in string bass with a piano minor. A year later I became restless with academia and moved to New York.

In 1962 I joined the George Shearing Quintet for 2 years - (I rejoined the group in 1971.) I learned an awful lot from George, and vibraphonist Gary Burton. It was then I started composing ...

Tommy Emmanuel's professional career spans over forty-five years and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. A household name in his native Australia, Tommy has garnered tens of thousands of loyal fans on five continents.

Tommy's unique style - he calls it simply "finger style" - is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano.

Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first people to inspire Emmanuel to pick up the instrument. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel's biggest fans. Chet and Tommy ended up recording together in 1996 on the CD, "The Day the Finger Pickers Took Over the World", which was nominated for a Grammy award. Sadly, this became Chet's last recording before his death in 2001.

In 1999, Chet honored Tommy Emmanuel with the rare title of "Certified Guitar Player" for his lifetime contribution to the art of fingerstyle guitar playing, an honor shared by only two other people in the world (Jerry Reed and John Knowles).

In his storied career, Emmanuel has set sales records that have yet to be broken and performed with hundreds of musical legends including Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, Sir George Martin, Hank Marvin, Joe Walsh, Stevie Wonder, Nokie Edwards (of the Ventures), Les Paul, Keith Urban, the Lexington (Kentucky) Philharmonic, the Dortmund (Germany) Symphony, and the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra ...

Welcome to the definitive Chris Allen Power Trip web site. The site has just went through a major update and continues to grow. Don't forget to check out the Music section for tracks I've posted from my new CD "Rock Machine" it's an Ultra Heavy, Blaze Infested, Rock Injected, InstruMENTAL Power Trip!
Playing guitar since age 13, Chris Allen is always trying to expand his musical ability by studying the styles of such artists as George Lynch, Randy Rhoads, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde, etc., as well as many Blues and Funk players from the 60's to present. "Ive got a HUGE list of musical influences and hero's and I draw from them all."

At an early age Chris has been influenced by music of all genres but when a 6th grade schoolmate introduced him to Van Halen's, Woman and Children First, Chris found direction and really gravitated toward guitar as his instrument of choice and vehicle for self _expression. After the first five years of being a self-taught guitar player, in the late 80's, Chris studied under Recording Artist/Berklee School of Music teacher, Joe Stump (www.JOESTUMP.com) for aprox. one year, played in a few local bands and really emersed himself in his playing and practice developing a unique blend of Rock, Funk, Metal and Blues.

Since 2000, Chris has auditioned for everything from 2nd Lead Guitar for none other than the Metal God himself, Rob Halford for his solo band HALFORD, to a Lead/Rhythm Guitar spot in a local production of the 1971, Andrew Lloyd Webber/ Tim Rice rock opera, JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR. Chris has also recorded lead/rhythm tracks for a Rock/Blues compilation CD released in Europe (Jack Speciale-2003), and co-wrote and recorded a demonstration track for Long Sought For Sound, a local, Boston area recording studio. Chris has been interviewed live, at many Boston area radio stations who've aired his music and even used samples of his songs as backing tracks for their advertising. Chris' music has also been featured/played as far as Bryansk, Russia (BRYANSK AGRICULTURE ACADEMY-College radio station) and even reached "Top40" (out of 1000+) on the late MP3.com's INSTRUMENTAL METAL CHARTS, beating out some well known names in the guitar community.

After his positively received debut DEMO CD (2002) entitled, "TROUBLE ON THE HORIZON....." a compilation of old and new original InstruMENTAL compositions, Chris has just completed his ~follow-up~ release entitled, "ROCK MACHINE" featuring four new tracks, A new sound and a few new riffs but with the same formula which has generated a small but Devoted fan base all over the world including professional interest. Chris plans to self promote his works to gain notoriety among his peers and subsequent fans. With future goals of touring, pro recording, endorsements and major record deals, theres no telling what this determined, aspiring new comer will bring in the way of PURE ROCK AGGRESSION.

The Lenny Breau Homepage. The late Lenny Breau was a true jazz guitar genius who ranks alongside Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian and Wes Montgomery as one of a select few inspired innovators who set new standards of creative artistry in Jazz Guitar history. Lenny's musical influences were truly diverse. They ranged from Country fingerstyle master Chet Atkins, Jazz Guitarists Johnny Smith and Tal Farlow, Flamenco virtuoso Sabicas, Jazz pianist Bill Evans and sax titan John Coltrane. Drawing from these eclectic sources Lenny created a truly unique voice in the guitar world.

Lenny's unprecedented technical facility and depth of musical insight allowed him to play Bill Evans style chord voicings simultaneously with improvised single note lines. His country and classical right hand techniques allowed for great independence of parts and subtle tonal and dynamic shadings. Lenny possessed a singular blend of techniques and musical knowledge that often created the illusion of two and sometimes three musicians eminating from a single guitarist ...
