Sonnox Oxford Plugins: Sonnox Oxford evolved out of a group of dedicated audio professionals who first worked together in the early 1980s. Having spent many years designing analogue and digital consoles for a leading British manufacturer, five engineers started a new Company in 1988 which was called Oxford Digital. Over the subsequent years the team slowly expanded, until in 1993 it became Sony Oxford.

One of Sony Oxford's major product designs was the OXF-R3 Digital Mixing Console, or 'Oxford Console' as it's often called. This huge undertaking, a no compromise high end digital audio system, was conceived by Oxford Digital in the late 1980s and productised for release by Sony in the mid 1990s. Virtually everything, including audio DSP chips and software design tools were designed at Oxford since, at that time, it was impossible to buy DSP technology with enough power.

As times and techniques moved on, and technology became cheaper with increasing power, we began to focus on how we could leverage the Oxford technologies into audio workstations. We became a development partner with DigiDesign and began work in order to create the Oxford EQ for Pro Tools. At the same time, we started work on the infrastructure for our e-commerce scheme which would be instrumental for sales and registration of our new software products ...

4. Duy
DUY was established in 1972 as a manufacturer of audio hardware.

From 1972 to 1987 DUY designed and manufactured music synthesizers, drum
machines, audio compressors, limiters, mixing consoles, and samplers.
Two of DUY´s most outstanding developments were the world´s
first digital drum machine and one of the very first
polyphonic synthesizers (see photo).
The ALFA1024 was a hybrid synthesiser equipped
with 32 digital oscillators, 8 voices analog
processing and a 1024 notes sequencer.
The system was controlled by an on-board
Rockwell 6502 CPU with 32K of RAM. It was 1983.

IN 1986 DUY created its first recording studio.
Initially conceived for the produccion of music , it
attracted the advertising agencies and film production
companies. Advertising was a flourishing business at that
time in Barcelona ..;

All those early developments and experience have evolved into the current line of DUY´s software products, which are currently being used by producers like David Reitzas, Mutt Lange, Chris Porter, Jean-Michel Jarre, Mike Hedges, Chris Porter or Spike Stent, who record artists like Celine Dion, Madonna, The Corrs, U2, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Robbie Williams, Texas, George Michael, and a very long list continues.

Aphex Systems was founded in 1975 in Massachusetts by Marvin Caesar and Curt Knoppel, the inventor of the Aural Exciter™.

The first Aural Exciter™ units were available exclusively on the rental basis of $30 per minute of finished recorded time.

The unit became so popular, especially with the Los Angeles music/recording studio crowd, that Aphex had to move to Hollywood.

Recognizing that there was a much bigger market than just the rental business, Aphex started selling the professional units, and introduced two low-cost models: Type B and Type C. The Aural Exciter circuit is now licensed by a growing list of manufacturers, including Yamaha, MacKenzie, Gentner, Emu and Bogen.

Aphex is dedicated to the development of high-quality products for the professional audio, broadcast, fixed installation, touring-sound and home-recording markets. Through that dedication, Aphex has developed a number of industry-standard devices, such as the Compellor®, Dominator®, Expander/Gate™ and Expressor,™ plus the Model 1100 Two-Channel and Model 1788 Eight-Channel Ultra-Precision Remotely Controllable Microphone Pre-Amplifiers, and the Model 2020 Mk III Broadcast Audio Processor.
