GearBox is the UK's premier supplier of audio & video solutions to the broadcast, film, post production and music recording industries.
Welcome to the GearBox website. This year we are celebrating our seventh anniversary, and I'm pleased to say that business has never been so good. So far, we have invested more than £5m in our rental stock, and are approved resellers for many top-brand manufacturers.
We have built a 'rapid-response' transport infrastructure to ensure that all this hi-tech equipment gets to where it really belongs - with you, the customer. And it is because of the support of our customers that we are able to bring you this website. For this reason, it is as much a 'thank you' to our clients as it is a promotion for GearBox ...

Wing Music:
Musical instrument & accessory sales. Sound & lighting hire, sales & installation. Repairs.
Wing Music opened its doors in Tweedy Road, Bromley, Kent on Saturday 3rd June 1972. To put it in historical music order this was just two and a half years after the Beatles broke up and just under two years after the demise of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. It was the start of the 'Glam rock' and the very english 'pub rock' era with Marc Bolan and Gary Glitter racing up and down the charts. The motivation of the business was essentially a 'gigging' shop with sales and service for the working bands of the time. The hire division was soon open and was probably one of the first music hire companies who would hire to musicians and the public on a day to day basis. As the popularity of our sales - hire - service combination grew more and more up and coming bands ands acts came to the shop see our clients list.
The explosive punk era saw virtually all the top name bands visiting and using us for sales and hire services. At the beginning of the '80's and the start of the New Romantics era the business relocated to Sidcup with the retail and hire shops facing each other at the end of Sidcup High Street. The store (previously owned by John Spice) was famous in the '60's for supplying equipment to the Rolling Stones, Pretty Thing's and Bern Elliott & The Fenmen (all local bands).
Towards the end of the Eighties, although the Rock and general live music market continued there began the emergence of the underground 'Acid' rave scene which resulted in the growth of the hire side of the business in larger P.A. and lighting. The business expanded rapidly on all fronts but the recessionary period of the early / mid '90's made for a rethink. As we reached the new Millennium the business is, as it always was motivated primarily to sales, hire and service for our customers.
Autograph sound recording:
1973 was a major turning points for the professional audio industry. It was the year that Andrew Bruce and Phil Clifford (two emerging sound engineers from London's Royal Opera House,) developed a business concept that did not already exist, a dedicated live sound hire company specialising in theatre.
Twenty eight years later, Autograph has matured to become one of the most respected and largest live sound equipment hire facilities in Europe.
The company today incorporates many other spheres, including sound design and consultancy, digital audio recording, composing and an entirely separate and successful division, specialising in professional audio equipment sales.
