The Radikal Sunflowers Colectivo: Dancehall Reggae Latin Breakbeatz Dub Jazz - from Darmstadt, Germany.
Creating its own hot and extra-spicy Mestizo sound, the Radikal Sunflowers
Colectivo manages to merge musical influences of Jamaika and its communitites
in the UK with wild Jazz, Cumbia, Soca, Reggaetón and HipHop in a really impressing way.
The lyrics in english, spanish and german relate to freedom, love & peace,
conciousness and slackness - sometimes serious, sometimes nice, sometimes
reflecting the culture and sometimes just ass-moving.
Each live performance of the Radikal Sunflowers Colectivo is an extraordinairy experience
somewhere between a Soundsystem Show, a gig of a Live Band and a Dancehall party.
The spectrum of the live-program ranges from original Sunflowers tunes, Jazz classics like
"Minnie the Moocher", "Summertime" and "Night in Tunesia" (in stunning reggae-versions), individual
interpretations of Manu Chao´s "Clandestino" and Sergant Garcia's "Que Palique" to riddims like
Diwali, Police in Helicopter, Bitch, Amelie, Groovin, Harmony.
Since 1977, COOL BREEZE™ has been on the cutting edge of World Music, playing what they call "New Orleans Tropical", an inimitable potent blend of Caribbean, Latin, and African musics with a New Orleans sensibility and lyrics primarily in English. Three of the five founding members remain with the band today, and most of the 20 current members have been with the group since 1979 while the repertoire has blossomed to well over 100 original compositions.
As COOL BREEZE™ has matured, it has expanded to feature a classic male vocal quintet; a powerful and dynamic 6-piece horn section; and a lush 9-piece rhythm and percussion section. They conjure up infectious melodies, vivid lyrics marbled with the exceptionally well-turned phrase, and the type of wry observations about contemporary life present in only the best music in the world. Music that is the life's blood of society and culture, as well as serving as the bulletin board; the newspaper; the love letters; the foundation of ritual; and the relief from life's hardships.
As Tom Cheyney noted in The BEAT Magazine: "Few other globally influenced bands have blazed such a progressive path (as) tropical big-band COOL BREEZE™" ...

Baki da Fari was formed as a quartet in 1997 in Linköping (the 5th biggest city of Sweden) but it all started off as a duo
many years before. Sly Agouda came to Sweden in the end of the eighties from Togo in West Africa and Hasse Forsberg
was already an established musician in place when they met and pretty soon began to create music together.
Hasse’s been working with lots of musicians during the years. Two of them are Bo Ekberger and Peter Bruun, also living
in Linköping, so the final constellation was quite naturally formed.
At the birth of the quartet there was some internal discussion whether Peter would perform drum set or percussion. The
solution came to fit the band perfectly – Peter basically plays congas and djembe while a drum machine is given the part
of a laid-back drummer who concentrates on bass drum and hi-hat to leave space for the "alive" performance.
Baki da Fari means "black and white" in the west-african language hausa which is used a lot in their music. The lyrics
are written by Sly and deals somewhat with the social and political situation in Africa but also with more lightweight
subjects.
Most of the music is written within the band and mainly by Hasse but the musical interpretation by everyone is of great
importance.

Jah Wobble:
Hurled out of the desolate streets of Stepney at 18 and into the nascent Public Image Ltd. (PIL), Jah Wobble was fundamental in shaping the virulent nihilism of punk into sonic and melodic extremes that evoked everything from dub reggae to Stockhausen. In Lydon, who was always more of a theorist than he dared admit, Wobble found the perfect early foil. It was PIL's avant garde experiments on Metal Box that ushered in a credibility to punk's more frivolous tendencies. "Miles and miles ahead - follow with care" was how the NME described those new sounds.
Wobble was the first musician of that ear to be taken seriously by the older music press, rapidly earning the reputation of a wilful auteur. This was all the more stunning when it was revealed that he had only just picked up a bass, lent to him by Sid Vicious a few months before joining PIL. "Wobble's antics are notorious yet now he has found himself in a position to channel his manic energy into formulating some of the most awesome and original bass lines in modern music", wrote Vivien Goldman in the Melody Maker.
Slumped in anarmchair on the Old Grey Whistle Test, whilst propelling the band with rock steady rhythms and a highly unusual flair for melody, Wobble cut a surprising and enigmatic figure at a time when listeners were growing tired of punk's obsessions with confrontation.
In those days Wobble created around himself an aura of menace and unpredictability perfectly counterpointed by PIL's claustrophobic drones - Keith Levine's circling tortured guitar arpeggios and John Lydon's naked grope at a more direct and unhindered form of expression. Wobble's reputation as a Stepney tearaway always seemed to contrast dramatically with his rapid and breathtaking musical command. Yet even more surprisingly his slicked back, Italian film star, spoof image on the cover of the first PIL album transported him into the unlikely realm of conventional sex symbol ...
