Judy Garland: The One and Only:
There are so many clichés about Judy Garland. To most she was the tragic figure tortured by what always seemed to be on the other side of the rainbow. Was she really though? How could someone who has brought joy to so many and who never considered herself as a tragic person—embody the epitome of the staged tragic figure?
Judy was born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922. “Baby” Gumm was the daughter of Frank and Ethel Gumm who owned a theatre in her birthplace of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. At the age of two and a half, “Baby” got her first taste of an audience and soon became the third member of an act with her sisters, Susie and Virginia. Ethel pushed the girls into show business, hoping that they would achieve the success she did not. As Judy grew older, it was clear that she was going to make it. Her love affair with music was something genuine and sincere that her audiences found contagious.
The Gumm family moved to Lancaster, California in 1926. Judy adored her Father and often resented her mother's push and shove mentality. Grand Rapids was the closest thing Judy believed she had to a normal childhood. When the Gumms’ moved to California, Ethel pushed even harder to get the girls into show business ...

Entrance to Judy Garland - The Live Peformances!
This site is dedicated to a woman that came into this world touched the very being of our souls and left us with a lifetime of memories, and an artistic legacy that will never be equaled. A person who 30 years after her immortality began, still shines as bright as ever in the hearts of those who loved her. A woman that is considered by many to be the worlds greatest entertainer.
Much has been said and written regarding this very talented lady, some of it may be true, most of it probably is not. We will not get into the 'legends' that surround Judy Garland in this tribute. Many people in order to sell a book, wanting to build their own careers or maybe even to simply increase their own bank accounts wrote many untruths and unsubstantiated stories about both her as a person and as a personality. This makes the task of seeking the truth almost impossible to find when reading many of the biographies that have been written.
Since Judy's career was that of an entertainer, I feel that her place in history should be judged on what she did publicly rather than privately. Time has allowed this assessment to take place as we focus on the career of the woman - it is the only fair judgment of her since she is no longer here: Her magnificent talent and it's transcendent effect on a live audience. Her abilities went far beyond voice alone. The essence of Judy Garland's art is emotion. She can take an average song and burn right through the lyric, projecting pure emotional substance. She was never one to hide behind any 'technique.' She was Judy Garland - most of her life was spent entertaining - the stage and the audience were her life ...

Reel Classics: Judy Garland:
Born and raised in show business, little Frances Gumm changed her name to Judy Garland and became one of classic Hollywood's most popular musical entertainers and actresses. She won her only Academy Award in 1939 "for her outstanding performance as a screen juvenile during the past year," most notably for her work on THE WIZARD OF OZ. Later in her career however, she would earn greater recognition for her acting abilities with Oscar nominations for her performances in A STAR IS BORN (1954) and JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG (1961). Judy is my favorite female classic movie vocalist, and in 2004, the American Film Institute's ranked five of her famous film numbers among its list of the 100 Greatest Movie Songs -- more than any other female vocalist.
