Drummer Robby Ameens website features sound bites, discography, itinerary, reviews, equipment set-up, biography, photo gallery, etc.
In the time that Robby Ameen has spent living in New York City since the early eighties he has compiled a recording career stretching from Dizzy Gillespie to Paul Simon, while maintaining a more than fifteen year relationship with Latin luminaries Ruben Blades and Dave Valentin. Although he is of Lebanese origin, Robby is best known for the unique and powerful Afro-Cuban style he has created.

Growing up in New Haven, Connecticut, Robby was able to take advantage of his proximity to New York City by going to clubs and hearing many of the great jazz masters at a very young age. At the same time, he was involved in the local jazz and latin scene, as well as later attending Yale University, where he received a BA in literature. His jazz roots were strongly influenced by his studies with the great Ed Blackwell in high school, while in college he studied classical percussion with Fred Hinger at the Yale School of Music.

Upon moving to New York, Robby began recording with Dave Valentin and Ruben Blades, who was the first salsa singer to add a full-time drummer to his band, Seis del Solar. Another one of his early recordings was New Faces with Dizzy Gillespie, about whom Dizzy said in Jazz Times "Just the other day I made a record with a Lebanese drummer – b-a-a-d! He had so much happening, and it keeps going, you know?" ...

Anthony Liberto, professional drummer.
Led Zeppelin is what got me interested in playing. Bonham’s big drum sound & great parts that fit every song, along with John Paul Jones laying down awesome bass lines is what it’s all about.

I took piano lessons in grade school. My father decided to get me a piano. One day he came home and saw me beating the shit out of the keys. He ran and told my mom: This son of a bitch don’t want to play the piano, he wants to play the drums. So out went the piano and in came the drum kit.

I like to listen to the classic bands like Yes, Aerosmith, Jethro Tull, Rush, Bad Company, the Ramones, and the Sex Pistols, 80’s hair bands, 60’s garage stuff and fusion music.

Some of the modern bands I listen to are: Puddle of Mudd, Hoobastank, Fuel, Disturbed, No Doubt & Incubus, Velvet Revolver, and Linkin Park .

I listen to Howard Stern in the morning. He is just out of his mind. If you listen to him and don’t laugh, you have no sense of humor and take yourself too serious. I do watch some TV shows, but not many. The shows I do watch are: Columbo, Seinfeld, The 3 Stooges, and The Munsters. I also like to watch the Spanish stations which are Telemundo & Univision. I don’t understand a word of what they are saying, but they have the hottest looking babes on their TV shows. You can also see good fist fights on their version of the Jerry Springer & Judge Judy type shows ...

Tama", "The World Music Orchestra" and "Senegambigha". 1987 he founded the group "OGIDI GIDI", with wich he toured with "Black Uhuru" and "The Wailers" and performed on TV. Luc Bergeron is a Westbrook, Maine-based drummer.

Luc Bergeron, originally from Lewiston, Maine, comes from a family of musicians and singers on both his mother's and father's sides, but is the only one in the family who had any interest in drumming. After much begging and pleading he was finally given a used drum set when he turned 12. His first formal lessons were with regionally well-known drummer and teacher Dick Demers.
Luc was a founding member of the rock band "Symmetry" while still in high school, which in 1986 recorded a demo that snagged national management (Fred Lewis - ex-mgr for "The Cars"), received radio airplay in Maine and Massachusetts, and generated major record label interest. The band played extensively through New England. After he left Symmetry in 1988, he spent a while wondering what he was going to do with his life, and decided to attend the University of Southern Maine as an English major during the fall semester of 1989. When he saw master drummer Steve Smith (Journey, Vital Information, sessions artist) in the spring of 1990 at a concert at the University of Maine in Augusta, it moved him to get serious about music, and so attended UMA's nationally known Jazz and Contemporary Music program ...
