Theo Scharpach, Luthier: After having worked on my own for almost 23 years, I decided that it became time to find a partner to pass on the knowledge. I was quite lucky to find Menno Bos interested in working together with me. I knew he had been making guitars for eight years (some fine historical instruments showing his craftsmanship) and moreover, he graduated as a guitar-teacher as well.
It turned out that we were able to share our style of guitar-making and for one and a half year Menno has been making Scharpach Guitars together with me.
Theo Scharpach:
I was born near Vienna, Austria in 1955.
I have been making guitars for almost 25 years. Now the workshop is in Bergeyk, the Netherlands.
I followed training in the fine art of wood handcrafting.
After that I also graduated as an antique furniture restorer.
The guitar-shop opened in 1976.
Menno Bos:
Growing up among church organ and choral singing like I did, the guitar is not the most obvious instrument you would expect I was attracted to. It took until I was about 16 years old before I got touched by the sounds of the classical guitar.
The fascination is probably due to the intimate character and the innumerable possibilities of sound colours this instrument has.

The Company that is now Crafter was founded by HyunKwon Park in April 1972 in the basement of his home, four people working in a 20 square metre area. In that early period, the company produced classical guitars for the Korean domestic market and these quickly earned a good reputation, mainly for their high quality of sound.
The company soon had to move to new, bigger premises in order to build enough guitars to fulfill the demand and, in 1978, it moved again, this time from Seoul to the new area of Yangju-gun.
At that time, the guitars were branded ‘Sungeum’ which means ‘accomplishing the sound’ and this is still a well known brand in the Korean market, today. HyunKwon’s ambition was always to supply instruments to guitar players throughout the world, however, so he then started to make acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars which had more international appeal.
In 1986, in Jae Park, his elder son, also joined the company with HyunKwon Park remaining as chairman. InJae believed that ‘Sungeum’ was too difficult a word for his export market so he decided to create a new brand that would be both easy to remember and convey an appropriate image. He chose the name ‘Crafter’, which has connotations of high quality and also pays tribute to the craftsmen who create the guitars. The Crafter brand is now registered in more than 40 countries throughout the world.
The latest factory, opened in 2000, is a 7,000 square metre building on a 12,500 square metre site. It is both new and modern, enabling them to produce the cleanest instruments whilst keeping to traditional production methods that allow the craftsmen to care for the instruments that they produce. The 140 strong Crafter workforce produced 60,000 instruments in 2001, with a capacity to build far more than that number ...
From the start of Kragenbrink Guitars in 2001 it has been my goal to build high quality, individually unique, hand crafted acoustic guitars, and to share this passion and journey with others.
Commissioning a guitar from me is always more than just picking tone woods and a model. The process is long and extremely detailed. Through the build we will be in almost constant contact, discussing every facet of your guitar to the Nth degree, and in the process forge a long lasting friendship, built on a common love of the acoustic guitar.
Art and Lutherie Guitars: You should enjoy your first guitar playing experience instead of becoming discouraged by an instrument that is difficult to play.
It was with this in mind that Godin Guitar Company President & Founder, Robert Godin, set about designing a line of entry-level acoustic guitars that would bring the key attributes of pro quality guitars within the reach of novice players. Most entry-level guitars are made with an emphasis on how they look, which is fine unless it is accomplished at the expense of how the guitar sounds and feels. For example, A&L guitars are finished with genuine lacquer. This special finish is applied over a four-day process that leaves a thin coating that protects the wood without inhibiting vibration. The thick plastic finishes found on other entry level guitars are the result of a one-shot spray technique that smothers the wood and the sound along with it. And, it doesn't stop with the finish. A&L guitars are made using many of the same tolerances and techniques as those of Godin's world-renowned Seagull guitars.
Precise neck pitch, fully compensated saddles, high ratio tuners, pro-quality set-ups and playability are all features that make the A&L guitars fun to play.
After all, guitar playing is supposed to be fun ...
