Double Distinction for Neumann at the 2004 TEC Awards
in San Francisco

Two Neumann microphones were distinguished at the Technical Excellence and Creativity (TEC) Awards ceremony at this year’s AES Convention in San Francisco: the contemporary TLM 127 and the legendary U 47.

Neumann U 47 inducted into the TECnology Hall of Fame

As an important milestone in the 125-year history of professional audio, the Neumann U 47 has been inducted into the newly created TECnology Hall of Fame.

The U 47, which appeared in the year 1949, introduced the pioneering technology of switchable polar patterns, and was characterized by a unique sound. While multipattern technology has now become a standard feature in many microphones, the sound of this mic remains legendary and is still highly prized today.

In the past, superstars such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Frank Sinatra, the Beatles, Miles Davis and David Bowie used the U 47 repeatedly during the course of their careers. For the proud owners of a well-preserved U 47, this mic remains a top favorite even today, and is used in numerous contemporary productions, for instance by Lenny Kravitz and Robbie Williams.

Neumann TLM 127 receives 2004 Microphone
Technology / Studio TEC Award

Simultaneously, the TLM 127 large-diaphragm mic introduced last year succeeded against strong competition in the studio microphone category. Over the 20-year history of the TEC Awards, the TLM 127 is the seventh Neumann microphone to receive one of these coveted awards for technical excellence and creativity.
